In the actual lore, Talon respects Kat and sees her as his true sister, Kat does the same thing to Talon, and Talon's younger than Kat and Cass, too. Although Garen and Kat are in rivalry countries, but they respect other's skill. In addition, they have some some similar point: they fight for their own countries, showing loyalty to it and sacrifice for it, in this case, even their countries are rivals, the respect can still grow into love. You know, love can melt even the coldest heart.

this is sort of a thing riot wants to avoid now "having similarities or similar purposes is not a reason to make something romantic"

both fighting for their countries with loyalty and sacrifice , both using same techniques , both being same type of creature, same clan,same land...that sort of thing.

if kat or garen get any romantic part in their stories its because it serves a reasonable purpose to their lore. and will impact how their lore goes forward not just for the sake of fans or having similar things.

i personally can see why garen would fall for kat , she is beautiful she is fierce she doesnt take sh... from nobody and she was the only person who could provide him with a decent challenge.(its ironic to say this knowing his voiceover actor is same as lu bu from Dynasty Warriors) whats not there to like about her? but on the other hand garen...well... he is a good warrior... but... thats it? we have plenty of those around.

Similar purpose just one of a very small thing that lead to their love, like in the old lore, you just need to see how they describe their fight, quite suggestive. Although Riot haven't confirmed it, Garen and Kat have been suggested and inspired by some champs like Tahm and Illaoi.

yes im fully aware of all of that im not talking based on assumptions and things i dont read before. but if you read garen lore you see that it mentions although people think that kat took garen breath away and it had nothing to do with the battle itself,he thinks people do not understand how he feels and misunderstand him and what it is that drives warrior forward every day. which makes me question the thing you said about "how they describe their fight" because none of them did!!! AND not to mention kat story mentions nothing about that and how she felt about it at all to be suggestive in the first place!

also i wouldn't hold my breath on those Tahm and Illaoi comments :p so when you say its one of the small things that leads to their love what else is there?

to this day i have yet to see a personal comment and confirmation from either one of them! cause not their lore mentions anything about it nor themselves! its always people around them! from random soldiers in their armies to lux and champions you mentioned. and if anything happens between them its going to be a very dim spark that never lights up and takes form. there is no happy ending to this. most likely when another war break loose they gonna end up in another battle and one of them hesitate to kill another and it leads to his/her downfall. i dont see any other way out of this.

They are jokes but he clearly has attraction towards her in these quotes. Though I'm not sure how much canon they are.
