I am pretty sure that he'll be retconned into a Vastaya as the whole stone thing seemed rather random.
I wonder if they'd give him some chimeric elements if they ever gave him a visual update.

Honestly, the whole Vastaya thing seems like an easy way to retcon a bunch of unique champions.
For originality call him Wu. Simple and don't need to overthink
I really hope he is. It's something that would fit perfectly for him, give him more character depth (seeing as he is friends with a human, that would be something the Vastayans would probably dislike, at least the new champs anyway) and would finally give him lore that isn't in some way tied to Journey to the West. If they don't make him at least in some way tied to them, then there goes any kind of interesting lore they COULD have given him. At that point I'd be worried that if they ever do give him new lore, it would just be more Journey to the west rip offs.
