I am pretty sure that he'll be retconned into a Vastaya as the whole stone thing seemed rather random.

I wonder if they'd give him some chimeric elements if they ever gave him a visual update.

It's not random. He's very blatantly a homage to Sun Wukong (it's in the name!). In Journey to the West, Sun Wukong was birthed from a stone.

Just because it is a reference to the myth on which the champ is based on doesn't explain why this happened in universe.

And there isn't any explanation for Wukong being born out of stone in universe.

I did notice the monkey in the research lore thing had scales on his shoulders and tail. Wukong has scale armor on his shoulder and a yellow tip on his tail. It could be possible that if he is Vastayan, He would at some point get scales added to the tip of his tail and a few things here and there. If the Diver update is next, they could even give Wukong the Malz visual treatment.

Honestly, the whole Vastaya thing seems like an easy way to retcon a bunch of unique champions.

I really hope he is. It's something that would fit perfectly for him, give him more character depth (seeing as he is friends with a human, that would be something the Vastayans would probably dislike, at least the new champs anyway) and would finally give him lore that isn't in some way tied to Journey to the West. If they don't make him at least in some way tied to them, then there goes any kind of interesting lore they COULD have given him. At that point I'd be worried that if they ever do give him new lore, it would just be more Journey to the west rip offs.
