Unpopular Opinion: Elementalist Lux doesn't fit the character

I've always seen Lux as everyone's lovable, cheerful, upbeat and happy-go-lucky light mage that never hesitates to remind us to stay positive and focus on the game. Her tone of voice is always slightly giddy and she never sounds too serious.

Elementalist Lux is a great skin, don't get me wrong. Riot did an absolutely superb job working on it and it's definitely the best skin to come out yet. However, nothing about the skin screams "Lux" to me. She looks like a different character entirely, especially her face in the character icons which when compared with her original splash look like someone else entirely. It's actually somewhat difficult to identify her as Lux at first glance. I know ultimate skins are supposed to be a total overhaul of the character, but you can look at all the other ultimate skins and immediately tell what character they're for; the same can't necessarily be said about Lux. The only obvious clue that it's supposed to be Lux is the staff, an item that several other characters also have and isn't necessarily unique to Lux.

My biggest problem though is that her voice lines just don't really sound like Lux to me. She went from being upbeat, positive and carefree to being some edgy punmaster who's always biting at the bit to crack her next joke. Even though it's the same voice actor, that spirit from the original just isn't there.

Basically, I think Elementalist Lux is a fantastic skin; just not a good LUX skin. I know most people probably disagree with me, but I'm still probably going to end up swapping between this and my other Lux skins I already have, because her original persona is a big part of what draws me to her as a character, and it's something that's sadly missing from her new skin.

The goal here wasn't to give her base Lux's persona - with an ultimate skin, we're looking to change the alternate fantasy more so than we already do on all of our other skins; it's meant to be an experience. To your point of looking different, that's intended, she's meant to be older in this skin than she normally would be. Her goals aren't the same as base Lux. Keep in mind that skins aren't canon, and can (and usually do) veer away from a champion's base lore.

I hope this explains the points you've brought up. If you have further questions, please let me know!

Well there's an old lore tidbit that Lux's upbeat and positive attitude is actually a mask to hide a crushingly empty shell of a person who has lost almost every chance to be someone other than the first daughter of the Crownguards.

So I actually think it makes sense for her persona to switch so much with each element because of the influence the elements have over her own lack of identity. The power overwhelms her and she welcomes the primal force because it helps her feel alive. She's aware of it because one of her darkness lines is, "what have I become?!" Indicating that some transformation are going to far and further stripping away her individuality.

Actually it still is Lux.

Think about it. She sounds more mature becuase she is.

She is a prodigy mage that has been shown to be able to copy spells just be seeing them once, bend light to her whim and fashion her own spells.

After years of practice she could become a master of the elements themselves, not just light.

She has changes in those years. She no longer is as upbeat and happy as she once was. She has seen things.

She tries to fake emulate her old self, but it comes off as fake.

A lot of skins, even cheap skins, have a very different persona than their base character. Rogue Admiral Garen is a pirate!
