Since Summoners aren't (and haven't been for a while) canon anymore, why do we still have the Rift?

What's the point in fighting on this map? Why do the champions take precious time out of their day to go fight on this massive, tower filled battleground with weaklings for soldiers at their side? Is there a motivation behind this? What good is destroying a nexus at the end of the day, what do the champions gain from it; what do they accomplish?

All of these, I think, are great questions, and unless I'm uninformed I don't believe there's an official explanation for this. I wanna know why Aurelion Sol, the creator of the universe(s), decides to miniaturize himself from a massive star-dragon just so he can beat up a bipolar rat with PTSD.

Sr is no longer canon it doesnt exist in runeterra. The matches have no point in the story.

Game and lore are completely unrelated since the great retcon ( 2014 i think).Summoners rift and the events that happen in it are not canon and can not be used to measure a champions strength in lore....That is vital point any lore enthusiast must understand...cinematics that take place on maps are not canon as well ! so what is canon ? well the answer is simple : everything that exists in the universe section of the site.If something is removed from the universe it is not considered canon anymore!

Important clarification note: the battles that happen in game ARE NOT a ''what if'' scenario..~~(xin zao can not damage xerath ) ~~ and aurelion is not as bigs as rek 'sai.

note # 2 : Riot should not try to relate the game to the lore since this can lead to one of two things : 1) some champions will be increadibly overpowered ( demi-gods etc) while others useless ( draven)

  1. Lore will become stagnant and bad because riot should create plot devices ( summoners !!!) to balance the game..oh wait... that happened once already !

i hope that this post becomes more popular because although riot has clarified those things a lot of times some people spread misinformation and thus confusion is born !

SR gives me an unlimited supply of canvases. Who cares about the Nexus? All I care about is making everyone I see perfect.

Well with more champions and the universe expanding, it’ll be harder and harder to tie it into actual gameplay, before it was simple, but now we have guys like targon fighting the void and the ascended and shurima and such, I feel like the game is gonna need some other facet to accommodate the massive amount of lore that’s being revealed, not to mention the lore in other universes such as with Project and Dark Star, like take my boy kayn for example, with his passive, he’ll either become an op assassin and overthrow zed or rhaast will take over and with a 3rd powerhouse darkin on the loose there’s gonna be a real issue, but we’ll never know how that’s turns out since it’s tied to gameplay, so I dunno if they’re gonna rename summoners rift, or do whatever with it

I like to think it's the future in Runeterra where people look back in history and create a game based on the most legendary people in the past. The League and the Institute of War was a fiesta with really loose connections between the champs and the Institute.

The game to the lore is what Super Smash Bros is to the narrative(s) of it's respective characters. The lore is basically a toy box for the game & that's their only connection.

Events in lore will rarely affect the game (and when it does, it isn't permanent). Events in game will never affect the lore because it doesn't make any sense.

It has been that way for years now.

i still like to think summoners are omnipotent beings who kidnap champs from any universe and timeline , and mind controll them to fight for the sake of funnsies
