My thoughts on Voice actors and legendaries.

I do like that Riot adds Legendary skins. With the effects and animations, the most impressive thing I find about legendary skins is that they have new dialogue. They hire old voice actors or new voice actors to do so many lines for the skin, it makes it something special since the voice actors are putting a lot of effort into them.

However, what bothers me is that they should be having these old and new voice actors do all the lines for the champion. Remember how I said they hire old voice actors to do legendary skins?

Galaxy Slayer Zed (released 2019) was voiced by Donny James Lucas who orignally voiced Zed way back in 2012... why didn't Riot ask him to stay behind and do some lines for Zed? He doesn't have a lot of lines which is disappointing from the amount he has on his legendary. You have Pulsefire Caitlyn, PROJECT Ashe and 2 Legendary Darius skins... voiced by the same people that did their original champions (withheld actors aren't safe, I swear that some of them do the legendary skins). I don't think they would mind if you paid them a bit more and asked them to do more lines for the champion.

Same goes for legendaries that aren't voiced by the actors that did the champions. Take Lucian voiced by Patrick and High Noon Lucian voiced by Jaun Ricardo Ojed. Jaun voice for the High Noon Lucian sounds amazing, why didn't they hire him to voice new Lucian lines. Same goes for God-King Garen, PROJECT Vayne etc. Such great voices that could add something new to champions that a bit more life to them instead of them saying the same line over and over again.

On reason why I believe they wouldn't do this is when they rework a champion visually or Gameplay wise, In which they completely redo the champion.. Another is that it may upset players that might not like the new voice actors doing their favourite champion who is due for a visual rework. It still seems off that they would get the voice of Zed to do a legendary for a champion that he voiced 7 years ago.

Not to mention that Lee Sin voice has a new voice actor due to Vic Mignogna having allegations onto him.

So my overall question is... why not make things easier by having the voice actors do the legendary skin and why not some new lines for the champion? This question is pretty much aimed at anyone at Riot that can answer, however I would like to hear everyones thought on this.

Its probly just due to time constraints for both rito and the VAs (they usually have a buttload of roles they do, comes with the job territory), cost (some are real famous so it may not be too smart business wise), and for some of the older voice actors they may not come back cuz they just don't wanna.

Overall, voice acting isnt just going into a studio and recording lines (its more like...80% of it lol). Directors are involved, making sure they get the lines recorded in a timely manner, contracts, etc etc.

Overall as much as it would be awesome to have them back or straight up just have all skins/ bases of champs As match, the reality and buisness side of it trumps 'hey bro that'd be nice'

See, I wondered as well. So I did ask Julian on Twitter.

Here is a link to my tweet, check the answers.

I would love some VO updates, especially for the champions I play. Sadly, it's not that easy...

Really a shame that Caitlyn didn't get new voice lines with her legendary skin. I still hope that she will get a complete visual update in the next years, she desperately needs this.

Even if i kinda agree, i get why it is so complicated. After all, they have to record the lines for every single language that the game has.

However, another reason of why i do think that some champions dont get new voice lines even if they get new skins, its because Riot doesnt know what to do with that champion and they are waiting for a full VGU.

I mean, Teemo has 30 seconds of voice lines in game, and has a legendary skin... But there is no lore related to him so far, so its hard to come with a new voice line for him.

Because that would be smart.
