What is the League of Legends?

I think I missed an important part of the lore, because with summoners gone and the newer in-client lore never mentioning the league, I have no idea why my character is there and not seeking vengeance Kalista or rebuilding their nation Azir. :P

Someone please link me to/ make up a reason for WHY A BUNCH OF PEOPLE ARE FIGHTING ALONG SIDE THEIR ENEMIES AND KILLING THEIR FRIENDS TO WATCH SOME CRYSTAL EXPLODE. (Not that blowing things up just cause isn't awesome Jinx.)

The new lore pretty much has nothing to do with the game now.

League's characters still have backgrounds and stories about them but we pretty much have a Super Smash Bros Tier story line now. There is no reason for them to be in the Rift fighting each other mentioned in the new lore.

They still release pretty entertaining stories once and a while the Xerath and Azir short stories... it's nice and all but the lore and the game itself are divorced.

Hard to take the LoL story seriously since half of the characters in-game call you summoner and the other half are to act as if you don't exist.

Riot has divorced gameplay from the game lore, so the League of Legends (the game) has nothing to do with the non-existent League of Legends in lore (which was retconned).

This is hilarious considering Heroes of the Storm (aka Blizzard: the Game), which is Blizzard's take on the MOBA-genre has an explanation for its story as flimsy as it is. Warp storms teleports random heroes from their franchises to strange arenas where they have to battle for nexus energies and hopefully a chance to return home. Best premise? Nah. Does it explain what the hell Zeratul, Diablo, and Tyrande are doing together in an arena beating each other senseless? Yes.

Also, if the lore has nothing to do with the gameplay - all this stuff the narrative puts out just seems like commissioned fanfiction and considering the new lore consists mainly of short stories...

The League of Legends and Institute of War were thrown out with Summoners in the lore retcon.

We don't have an explanation of gameplay, and AFAIK Riot wants gameplay to be unrelated to lore.

The League of Legends is what we make of it. Narrative has abandoned it.

The game and the story are two separate things. They are not connected. It's like reading a comic and then watching a movie adaptation.

What I like to believe is it is just them fighting. Since the League of Legends doesn't exist anymore, there is no one to stop wars.

Leauge of legends is just a name now. It is a lot like smash brothers really. All the characters are mashed intl fighting without purpose, and its super unbalanced

Riot doesn't use the lore anymore, so they are just playing around with the story now and then.
