@Riot Is Yorick still Mori
Just a Quick Question, does Yorick still have the last name Mori?
Just a Quick Question, does Yorick still have the last name Mori?
Yes, his full name is still Yorick Mori
How can you remember?
A follow up question, then.
Does it matter that his name is still Yorick Mori?
I ask because there's nothing anywhere, not in the New Yorick VO or the background bios and short form lore, that mentions New Yorick has the name "Mori."
In fact, the only source I could find that suggests that New Yorick is still named "Mori" is this specific post and Cactopus's difficult to find poem... (and I looked). These aren't very reliable sources.
Even the writer of Yorick's Narrative says that it doesn't matter when asked in the Q&A.
It's possible, but it's not relevant to his lore anymore.
So, I have to ask, is the name "Mori" such an unimportant part of the New Yorick character in the eyes of the company that any Rioter can just come in and say "sure, whatever, his last name is Mori."
It's also in the title of the Q&A.
To answer your question Terra.
I think it's as important as any other Champions full name, in that most aren't explicitly known but might come up in some narrative pieces depending on circumstance. We didn't know Miss Fortunes first name was Sarah until burning tides. We don't know many champions full names but that down' make them any more or less important.
Just because Yorick had a VO line when're he stated his full name didn't make it more important that every other Champions full name.
Well, a certain Jericho is very important to the lore too and his name isn't mentioned a lot beside his old League judgement.
... i actually remember who that is!

Break the walls down?
Exemplar of Demacia, Prince Jarvan Lightshield the Fourth

Somebody doesn't read the loading screen "Did You Know?" boxes.

Fair enough. I will concede this one point.

I apologize in advance for my pedantic nature, but I have been a League lore fan for five years and am cursed with a memory for this sort of thing. I really do care about this stuff (maybe too much, all things considered).
Back to the point, Miss Fortune's first name was first released in her original bio.
Quoting from the wiki:
For those who brave the harsh seas of Runeterra, attaining one's own ship and crew is the pinnacle of success.
Sarah Fortune, a well-respected (some would say legendary) bounty hunter from Bilgewater, was able to achieve this feat just after her sixteenth birthday, etching out her name as the go-to gal for resolving special troubles.
While it's true that Riot hasn't released full names for every champion, they have released quite a few either through the old bios, League Judgements or other avenues. For example:
Shauna Vayne Jericho Swain Garen and Luxanna Crownguard Katarina and Cassiopeia Du Couteau (if that's still canon) Prince Jarvan Lightshield the Fourth, Exemplar of Demacia Sona BuVelle Emilia LeBlanc Malcolm Graves Fiora Laurent Annie Hastur
Hell, the only name that has been revealed in the past year's worth of story events was Tobias Fate.
(Of course, this is all under the assumption that this stuff is still canon. Foundations may now believe that Vayne's first name is "Bruce" for all I know!)
Just because Yorick had a VO line when're he stated his full name didn't make it more important that every other Champions full name.
You also had the head writer of New Yorick's story say that he wasn't sure if his last name was "Mori" and it probably didn't matter anymore. (I quoted and linked it.)
I'm just curious if the name Yorick Mori is official canon from Riot, confirmed after months of debate within the company despite no reference to the name in the VO or the official bio, or if it's a similar situation to the "Graves now vapes" thing Cactopus joked about over on Reddit about a month ago.

It is actually Tobias Foxtrot. :P I know why you're confused.

It took me a while to find that one.
One Rioter in EUW confirmed that, but no where else? Hmmm...

I still don't know why TF thinks his name sucks. I think Tobias is such a cool name.

Because he's written that way? shrug
Yes, Yorick Mori is officially canon.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but I always assumed this was a nod to the phrase "memento mori", i.e. Remember death/your mortality. "You will remember your(ick) Mori".
{quoted} To answer your question Terra.
Actually, you didn't answer the question. Is the Mori name canon with New Yorick or is this something so unimportant to the future plans of the character that you can just say "Yes it is."
Point is - it ever was?
No. Even in his old lore it was uninportant. It was stated that his job was done by his family, but the name itself of the family bore no importance at all - there was nothing to tie it with.
he could have been called Yorick "Douchebag" or Yorick "Pappagallo", it would have been the same.
Thanks, if I ever get a parrot I'll name him Yorick X)

Dunno. All I know is that it was important enough to be included in his first set of VO lines and repeated about 20 times per game. Now, this new Yorick repeats "I will perform your rites" until nausea sets in.
Aaand if by a second pass it resulted no more important, then why keep it?
Of course there is some affection tied.to that, and as you can see Mori is still his name and is referenced in one of his lines.
Also, new Yorick has more lines to pick from - if there is someone nauseating in matter of quotes it was the old one.
Riot has said that it may still be Mori, but Yorick's lived so long that he likely doesn't remember it.
Not sure if it's ironic or not, but I'll go with it.
Edit: What JohnODyin actually said was:
lol the official league of legends page still has old yorick while the unofficial wiki has it updated already http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/yorick/ http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Yorick gj rito
The wiki still has it listed as Yorick Mori under the background tab.

The Wiki is fan created and edited, it may be incorrect as of now, but no Rioters have said so.
Fair enough, in that case go to the main boards page and read the name of the Yorick Riot post at the top. (I just noticed this too)

Ahh that gif is so perfect for how I felt too. IDK why but I am cracking up so hard watching it.
We as the community still see him as Yorick Mori - so he may very well be Yorick Mori to us regardless of his VU.
It would have been good to have his champion renamed Mori just to make sure he's far away from so-and-so cancer champ.
