Add a "Zed will appear here" particle when he ults

Desiderium··20 votes·1,373 views

So, just now I saw someone on Reddit say in a thread about Zed: "what? he always appears behind you after he ults? I never knew that, I can actually play against him easily now" (keep in mind this person also knew about the upcoming nerfs to Zed because he posted in a thread that mentioned it.)

Now this SHOCKED me. How can you not know something like that? Especially after this much time?

Then it occurred to me that it isn't exactly all that obvious unless you play him or against him often.

So how can we fix this?

Easy. Add a particle that shows where he's going to appear after he ults. This will:

  1. Look cool

And 2. Make it easier to play against him.

What should the particle be?

To reduce Art team bandwith requirement, just make the "Zed will appear here" particle the same as his full Recall animation. You know how the little symbols show up around him when he recalls, and then the portal at the bottom? Make it show up behind you when he ults you, in addition to the X mark.

Thoughts?

FOR PROJECT ZED: Make the portal the same as the death animation's portal.

If I'm having difficulty with a certain champion, I would go online and look up counter play mechanics. If someone is having trouble with Zed, they should be able to look up counters without the need of an indicator. Talon always appears behind you and people are fine with that, the point of not having an indicator is to punish the people that are too stubborn or ignorant to know what another champion's ability does. I spent quite a while learning what abilities are hard to face and/or pull off so that I wouldn't be caught off guard and die.

I'm sorry but that's not a viable excuse for lack of clarity. Yes, there are idiots in the world, and yes, they won't read things when they're supposed to read things. But that shouldn't be something that we just let fester. Why encourage reading when you can add clarity manually? It's not like his recall particle is even taking much "particle space" on screen either, which should make it even easier to implement as it doesn't drown out as much as Anivia's wall does, for example, or Star Guardian Lux's ultimate.

People that are Gold and below just won't read the wiki. It's unfortunate, and it is something we should continue to encourage, but just because people won't help themselves isn't a good reason for us not to help them.

Zed is a very old champion, and the change to his ultimate's placement was made a very long time ago. And there are still people that don't know where he appears. That is a problem. Admittedly: It is THEIR problem but it's commonplace enough for it to require fixing. That's why it's a good idea to add something that takes up only a small amount of particle space (Zed's full recall animation) behind the target. This will not only look cool, but also provide the ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM amount of clarity to his ultimate in combination with the X, because you know who he's jumping on and where he's going.

If its so common place, it'll only effect the idiots that don't read counter-strats. Its like making an indicator for Talon's ER combo, you don't have vision of him but you know where he will show up, behind you. Yes, some people don't know how to deal with a Zed because Zed is a complex champion that requires time to master and defeat. By having no indicator there is a certain skill and knowledge set that some players will have over others, that encourages people to learn or just play Malzahar. That skill curve is a great feature of league, so that the players who work hard get rewarded. Making that indicator will make a part of the counter play mechanic broken. If riot should fix anything, they should fix Fiora, not zed. And if people are too dumb too learn, riot might just make a change like Cass's or Ali's combo, just remove the need for skill on a high skill cap champion, which is pretty stupid.

It's been directly behind you for years now. I'm a low elo baddie and I know that. If other people refuse to learn that is truly on them.

Now this SHOCKED me

I thought PROJECT: Zed was more preferred nowadays.

What makes this kinda worse is the fact that his champion spotlight depicts deathmark completely differently https://youtu.be/2DFtlNGzMIA?t=116 You can clearly see that in this zed appears in front of his enemy and a shadow appears behind the enemy.

i kind of always assumed his ult would put him behind you since most assassins who have a targeted dash/blink put them behind the target (kat talon akali zed)

shouldn't this be in the gameplay section of the boards?

It technically has to do with art and visuals, so it can fit here as well

No this would not work whatsoever. In fact, it will probably just lead to you being even more confused. Why, you might ask? Because he appears behind you, meaning that every little movement that your character goes through while he is invulnerable will cause the particle to shift around. And this might be a little harsh, but tbh it is up to you to understand what your lane opponent does and how to counterplay him.

Meh. That would be messy. It's a parcticle that moves a lot since he appears behind you and just rotating the char can cause confusion. Remember, we are talking about people that does not fully comprehend what they are facing.

On paper, you have a point, but if you actually apply this thought process in-game, it's actually going to HELP people rather than confuse them even further. Because even though it's an extremely edge case where the portal would move back and forth as you are saying, you'd have to be moving back and forth behind and in front of his starting location, AND the portal would move every time you click, which gives you the hint that you're controlling it, which ends up helping people comprehend what they are facing.

So while you do have a point, when you actually apply it in game, it's going to help more than it's ever going to hinder, even if you're frantically clicking around his starting location and the portal moves every time, it's you controlling that, not Zed, and you are going to get the picture and realize how to fight against him.
