Pulsefire Ezreal and DJ Sona are what ult skins should be.

Udyr however...

Udyr's ult skin should have been a remodel, his default look is old and terrible. (just look at his weird arms for example)

When you look at the Twitch remodel, Sion remodel, Trist remodel, Heimer remodel. Karthus remodel (Trundle was more of just a pointless lore change to recolor him and Sejuani was just to put clothes on her)

The quality difference from old to remodel is about the same as default Udyr and Spirit Guard Udyr as their new default skins. (Twitch, Sion and Heimer being the most noticeable)

Yet people had to pay $20-30 to get the quality on par with new champs/remodels.

Another big deal with the Spirit Guard Udyr was that he had new emotes and interactions, but these remodels/reworks also say different things when you buy different items too.

item 3070 Udyr item 3070

Pulsefire Ezreal completely changed his look with a new suit and everything, and PFE was the first awhile ago so it gets some slack in comparison to DJ Sona

I don't even play Udyr, I just think that DJ Sona makes Spirit Guard Udyr look so not worth the money in comparison.

After DJ Sona, the Spirit Guard Udyr skin should have been a rework, or a Legendary quality (1820 rp) skin at best. Dunkmaster Darius is more deserving of Ultimate status then Spirit Guard Udyr

Edit : the new Definitely not Udyr skin is a bigger character change then SGU, and its better looking.

Yeah… His classic skin looks completely awful.

I'm pretty sure this is how Spirit Guard Udyr happened:

Riot: "How's the visual update on Udyr coming along?"

Visual Update Guy: "Going great! Take a look!"

Riot: "Wow! That looks amazing!… A bit too amazing…"

Visual Update Guy: "Gee, thanks!"

Riot: "So, you know how this was supposed to be a VU? Now it's a skin."

Visual Update Guy: "Wait, what? No, that's a terrible ide--"

Riot: takes out dollar bill "Shhhhhhhhhhhh…" tucks it into Visual Update Guy's front shirt pocket

Visual Update Guy: "…Are you trying to bribe m---"

Riot: "Shhhhhhhhhhhh..." tucks another dollar bill into Visual Update Guy's front shirt pocket

I actually discovered recently that Jungle Udyr is a lot of fun, but I have a difficult time playing him just because his classic skin looks like garbage now in comparison to almost everything else in the game. It almost hurts to look at in comparison to SGU. I would never buy SGU though because I think it's extremely overpriced and because I agree with you, it SHOULD have been his visual rework. That was my first impression of the skin a year and a half ago when it came out, and my opinion of it hasn't changed.

IMO it's a pretty damn cool skin, but absolutely not worthy of the price tag for the reasons I mentioned above. I think Riot usually does a fantastic job, but this is one exception.

I played Udyr A LOT back when SGU was released. Needless to say, I bought it the hour the skin was released. I was content with my purchase and it did feel a lot like an Ultimate skin.

But lately, I've been thinking the same thing. With the Sion re-release in particular, SGU doesn't feel all that Ultimate anymore. PSE looks more like Ezreal 2.0, and DJ Sona is DJ freaking Sona. SGU just feels like what Udyr should already be.

I still don't regret the purchase though. I love the skin, and on the rare game that I still play Udyr I still enjoy what the skin offers. Ultimately, pun intended, I just hope the Ultimate skins retain DJ Sona's quality here on out, if not better.

And yeah, 20 bucks is a lot for some pixels, but I regret paying 60 bucks for COD way back in the day a lot more than I'll ever regret spending money on League.

Biggest thing is that Sona and Ezreal's skins both take on a drastically new theme, and Udyr's doesn't attempt a new theme at all.

Udyr's skin should have been a 1350 that came along with a full rework.

they're not going to update udyr because everyone wants to be fucking trick2g so they buy the skin and make tons of money for rito. I strongly disagree with people who complain about rito being "sellouts" or "money whores" because it's simply not true. But...c'mon...it's marketing 101

P.s spirit guard udyr is badass and really doesn't bring a different theme like the others so it really does just feel like it should be a remodel.

If SGU was free, I'm pretty sure so many more people would actually give Udyr a chance, just because his classic skin is just a complete eyesore.

I have the same theory regarding Battlecast Urgot.

BLU Medic3/5/2015, 2:49:43 PM2 votes

Totally agree. Poor old Udyr. And because of that skin, it's unlikely Udyr will ever get a proper revamp like a lot of champions.

On the flip side, at least it's not Gentleman Cho'Gath.

actually i thin kthat the pulse fire ezreal skin is probably the worst one cause it barely changes him. oh he can fly for half a second amazing!!! oh it makes a cool sound when you kill a minion, woah so different. on the other hand, Spirit Guard Udyr completely changes his looks and by level 6 it evolves how his abilities look once again. to be clear im not saying that it shouldnt have been a remodel, but its better to show off this skin rather thatn see everyone have it.

Akenero3/4/2015, 2:37:19 PM2 votes

SGU is extremely deserving of it's ultimate status, considering he has a crapton of quotes, an extremely well detailed evolving model, and preserves his theme is perfection. Now I do admit, he definitely NEEDS an update, but something that makes him more of a Jungle-man ala tarzan or something, SGU is a monk who's been trained, Udyr on his own is a force of nature that attempts to, but cannot control his emotions.

As a newer player, it is Puslefire Ezreal that looks extremely overpriced to me. DJ Sona and Udyr both involve a bunch of content. I had no trouble determining that those were supposed to be special "ultimate" skins. Pulsefire Ez, on the other hand, just looks like any 1350 RP skin. As much as I enjoy shoveling money at League, I wouldn't pay 1820 for PFE, much less what they've got him priced at now.

Oleandervine3/4/2015, 1:43:16 PM1 votes

Here's what needs to happen. Udyr needs to be visually reworked entirely. They need to take Spirit Guard and migrate it to the new classic skin and update all of his other skins accordingly. Then, Riot skin design needs to sit back down and overhaul Spirit Guard as a skin to make something completely new and completely worth the Ultimate price.

Ulquiorra9953/4/2015, 3:46:22 PM1 votes

Yeah... PFE and DJS completely change the feels of a champion. SGU, while being very well done, suffers from a very, very big problem: It is a 30$ visual update. ince his ultimate skin is so similiar to his base, it severely gimps his VU potential.

Only thing I think is to give him a ragged look in his VU: dirty, torn clothes, messy beard, etc. VU's should be free, not something you pay 30$ for. Like Sona's music: Oh? You want to hear your bard champion play music again? That'd be thirty bucks.

Thumpin3/4/2015, 8:17:42 PM1 votes

Gotta say I disagree with this entirely

An ultimate skin is re-envisioning the champion. I guess it's a lot like how Sion's update turned out, but he needed the entire remodel.

Udyr doesn't.

The champion's concept is fine, gameplay wise and visually. What's not fine is the quality of the model. Think about Heimer; his update didn't change him the way that Sion's did, or even Twitch. If Udyr gets upgraded it will be an improvement to the model and textures, but it wont be a re-design of his visuals at all. He'll still be wearing a bear as a hat, he'll still have the big arms and he'll still punch things. SGU and the base model will always be different.

My only concern is that the upgrade will overshadow the quality of SGU when it inevitably happens.

Aegis Meliae3/4/2015, 8:23:14 PM1 votes

I would argue that SGU has a tonne of extra voice interactions, bumping it above Legendary to Ultimate, but they've been adding those to most champions since Braum's release.

Also, while we're speaking of such things, Trist's "Legendary" skin, Firefighter Tristana... Why did that not get more added to it other than water effects. Particles alone is what, 975 price range? 1350 is for complicated skins such as Zyra or changed sounds like Project: Yasuo? All her skins are now sitting at 750/975 price standards.

Seems a bit lazy for a so called Legendary skin to be of almost equal standards as Trist's free skin. I would bring up Twisted Fate's one as well, but that was done awhile ago now. (still, that feels lazy as well)

Ah, yes, Udyr's many skin choices, including Udyr, Udyr Udyr, and Actually Good Looking Udyr.
