Couldn't there also be another person who has made or at lest thought of something similar in Zaun? I mean People come up with new things in Zaun every day don't they? Isn't there one scientist or Engineer who would love to get his hands on the z- drive?
Sharjo4 votesWhy do you think that vigilnaut went to try and take it from Ekko in Seconds? It stands to reason, considering that place is special to Ekko, that the man was hired, and not just passing through peacefully. Ekko's probably being watched by people he doesn't even know exist right now.

People with significant influence in Zaun could likely have the means to dig around in the right places to at least suspect the Z-Drive itself is worth way more than it'd first appear. Time manipulation might not be first on people's list of things the Z-Drive is supposed to do, but it's highly likely there's a few people who are highly suspicious of the little runt and wanna see just what exactly he's capable of.
Plus there's also the connections you can draw from just observing Ekko even if you don't know he's rewinding time; the mechanisms of the drive and how Ekko uses it - Ekko's ability to, in the last version of a timeline he sticks to, do everything he needs to do with incredible precision, indicating multiple tries - exhaustion and non-visible wounds, etc. The signs are there that I figure some smart enough people could connect the dots to have a decent guesstimate as to the Z-Drive's function and purpose.

Sharjo1 votesWell that depends on how skilled Zaunite assassins/bounty hunters/anyone who'll kidnap or murder for money are and what kind of people are involved in those professions. Because if a certain someone hired an individual of Katarina's expertise, I recon Ekko wouldn't stand a chance. It all depends on how the inner workings of Zaun work, in its organisations, its government, its underground activities, etc.

I dont know.
Every time he goes back in time, it means the person he was fighting would never actually see him activate that function of the device.
So effectively NO ONE has EVER seen it.
Now, they have seen his Q and W, and that is still impressive. But I dont know that multiple tries of the same events would even occur to people.
Perhaps the only hint is his young age, and the unlikeliness of him acquiring so much fighting skill from a young age. If he were much older -no one would EVER know except by magical analysis.
Lumen Sage5 votesBut battle damage remains to some extent as seen. Imagine being a scientist, watching the battle from Seconds from the outside. To them they would see the hulking thing approaching Ekko, who would suddenly, in the blink of an eye, show signs of unseen injury and exhaustion which were not there before, before flawlessly, with seemingly perfect reflexes and precognition, take down his opponent.
It might not be something a person watching would realize immediately or even from watching it just once, but one might be able to connect the dots.
Sharjo1 votesEspecially if they witness something like this a few times. We have to remember that the Z-Drive has a wind up function with the cord, so it's clear when he's using it, so the signs are there for the observant to pick up on.

Now they may not have evil in their hearts while doing so, but such children would almost have to indulge in some level of thievery to survive: Think Aladdin. So it's likely, IMO, he figured out what he wanted and pinched it.

I think that as a punk kid - who is also really smart - the idea of messing with time would be particularly appealing. It's cool, it's dangerous, it's not something most people (anybody?) can do, and it's quite useful! I think that would appeal to Ekko quite a bit.

That right there is why I didn't want to delve into it (it was very late at the time). Did he initially set out to create a time machine or something else? What past experience has Ekko had in the field of time, or really any scientific pursuit?
has built a lot of robots before he decided to turn into a cyborg (for personal reasons). He didn't just decide one day, "I think being a robot would be awesome" and then proceed to do it without any previous understanding of how it worked.
spent years, YEARS, doing horrific things in order to become what he is now. All that time he was learning and experimenting.

I know that the people of Zaun (Zuan?) are smarter (but not wiser because they have a lot of hygene issues by the looks of it) than your average person. But what previous experience did Ekko have to build a machine that laughs in the face of the universe?

Sharjo1 votesIn a timeline sense? Not in Urtistan that's for sure, since the last visitor we know about is Vel'Koz, and he deduced that Zilean buggered off not too long before he arrived at least. How far you can travel in the time between Vel'Koz's arrival and right now in time, considering in universe time =/= real world time, is up for debate, but I'd say he's probably still in Shurima. It's a HUGE sodding desert after all.

Jackbhiriti1 voteswhat i do think is that....zilean is said to be trapped in some sort of time situation there, so i think being around for the half of infinite that he has been he has made plans to either set himself free/prevent what got him there or even to achieve some other zilean level purpose, and so he set up his plans to make a champoin of time and so begins his subtle manipulation of ekkos life, leading ekko to the point where he has made z-drive. all the while ekko thinks he is ahead of all but has been dancing to the tune of zilean, in a song that goes who knows where? perhaps zilean is a good guy and is just equipping time bound warriors (i.e people not stuck in time like himself) that can fight an evil that zilean (in his infinte wisdom) knows if impending.

Kadavik1 votesDuring a fight Ekko is the only that knows he went back in time. To outside attackers it just seems like he knows all their moves and manages to pull impossible stunts. I don't think he's made the Z-Drive public, but intelligence agencies should be getting suspicious by now.

Suspicious? Yes.
But it would make more sense to presume it as some kind of self enhancement device increasing his reaction time, and senses.
A time machine is the last thing you would expect it to be.
Also the time-delayed hologram of Ekko is a game mechanic of his R, it doesnt SEEM to actually exist within setting because we never see it in the Teaser video. On the other hand in game, it also does AOE damage, whereas in the video it doesnt have a damaging effect unto itself.
