Couldn't there also be another person who has made or at lest thought of something similar in Zaun? I mean People come up with new things in Zaun every day don't they? Isn't there one scientist or Engineer who would love to get his hands on the z- drive?
Why do you think that vigilnaut went to try and take it from Ekko in Seconds? It stands to reason, considering that place is special to Ekko, that the man was hired, and not just passing through peacefully. Ekko's probably being watched by people he doesn't even know exist right now.
A lot of people are also insane? Or a lot of people have tried and failed miserably (but thankfully not catastrophically). Or people are still debating whether time actually exists.
Meanwhile, a punk kid builds a time machine to do...I don't even know why he built it.
During a fight Ekko is the only that knows he went back in time. To outside attackers it just seems like he knows all their moves and manages to pull impossible stunts. I don't think he's made the Z-Drive public, but intelligence agencies should be getting suspicious by now.
