Did riven really kill the Ionian elder? In my opinion i feel like she did not do it and it part of a bigger scheme working in the shadow. Maybe it could be

We don't actually know that Riven killed the Elder, it's just heavily implied.

I was on the point to reply but suddenly i remembered that zed x syndra isn't riot canon
It is so incredibly heavily foreshadowed that it was Riven that, if it was anyone else, it would feel like a complete bait and switch.
Like "Oh, you expected Riven, but did you ever think about this new, never mentioned champion, WIND BOY, coming out next month? GOTCHA!"
