I would theorize that Morgana and Kayle are going to have an event when they are reworked in their duo rework and that Riot doesn't want to double up on them before they get their rework. It cuts hype for both the current event about the skins as well as would cut hype for a future event with their rework.

AirKingNeo4 votes

Please don't mess up Kayle as badly as Kindred was gutted with her rework...

Even Kayle has a fluid kit unlike Morgana.

Fondling Gems16 votes

That's not on me, I am just a Warden (A community volunteer)

I am not privy to all the secrets the Riot holds. Well except whatever we manage to pull out of Keyru, but she is a tough nut to crack. We share the same hype all of you guys do, we just get to look pretty while doing it.

AirKingNeo3 votes

Oh I know, I just really don't want my main completed fucked over like Kindred.

Arsenic Sulfur1 votes

Well Kindred had it coming from the very start. Kindred had as much of a margin of error as Garen; Almost none. The only thing that stops Kindred from doing what they want to do is range.

Q auto-targets W auto-targets E is a lock-on R is a "press button, shit happens" skill

Kindred will never leave the dumpster for long until they can screw up their abilities because of a reason that isn't "lul out of range"

AirKingNeo2 votes

You understand that it's easier to balance champions who have click-ons/auto-targets than it is people with skillshots, right? Because their damage output is consistent and thus is easy to read.

GreenLore1 votes

I wouldn't say that this is the case.

Champs who have nothing but autotargets tend to be rather hard to balance, because these champs have to pay for this reliability with power. Meaning a champ with lots of click-ons/auto-targets will be inferior to champs with skillshots,as long as the skillshotchamp is played by someone competent.

Even worse is the fact that champs without skillshots tend to be even more opressive when ahead, because you can't really outplay them.

Though that doesn't mean that I agree with Arsenic sulfur here. Kindred needs to position themselves correctly for their Q to hit the right targets and their ult can easily benefit the enemy team more than your own.

Morg's kit is actually... somewhat fluid if you chain things together properly. That said, it's all buffers. There're no cancels, and with no instant-cast abilities the only simultaneous cast is WE. WE's actually bad, since it actually delays the E cast, which is almost instant normally (but not quite - it has a tiiiny cast time). With WE, the E doesn't start casting until just before the W cast completes, so they land at the same time. Every other combo has to be sequential, so while most things buffer really well, it's critical to know exactly what you're doing in what order. Only one it makes significantly easier is QE, since it lets you move your mouse around after targeting E but before it casts. The advantage from that is pretty minimal, though. Most of the buffering is just about flow and personal comfort. It can help with lag, of course, but if you have lag problems Morgana is probably not a good champ for you anyways. xD

AirKingNeo3 votes

Her spellshield and passive are extremely out of place when it comes to the flow of her kit.

Morgan le Fey4 votes

Depends on her role, but I generally agree on passive and disagree on E. For teamfights where you're not the primary engage, E is actually incredibly important, especially if you don't want to buy Protobelt. It can really be a problem to get past CC to position for ult otherwise, even with flash up, since she's fairly squish and very immobile. For pushing, both are important - E for CC, and passive because have you seen how much damage a full-AP Morgana's W does to a minion wave? That said, passive is def. out of place overall.

What fits totally depends on her rework theming. Focus on the "freedom from kayle's tyranny" side of things and the E, and you could get a powerful anti-CC support - drop her R for something reflecting Kayle's (maybe something similar to a Locket active with a very brief spellshield attached?), give her a movespeed passive of some sort, and then make her W less about zone control and more about consistent %missing health damage.

Focus on her amazing CC/teamfight, and you could drop her E for an engage tool (dash?) and attach a brief self-spellshield to it. Passive would probably be something combo-ish - extended CC on the next spell if you can do something mildly difficult and inconsistent?

Focus on the "Fallen Angel" darkness/corruption/damage side of things, and you could drop her Q and R's CC duration, but extend it while the target is in her W. Either put some sort of %current/%missing health DoT in her passive OR attached the CC duration extension to her passive. Drop the E entirely and either replace it with some sort of debuff or with a Grounding effect of some sort.

Obviously none of this is balanced in the least, and some of it is ridiculously broken or blatantly terrible, but we're talking theming and what would "fit". Most of these I'd actually kinda dislike in key ways, though. It'll be interesting to see how they go about updating her. I doubt they'll break her for me, since most of my favorite things about her are pretty core, but we'll see!

What I really do hope is that they flesh out her character thoroughly, make her vastly more interesting (and hopefully less edgy T.T), and give her some decent voice lines. Def. looking forward to the visual update part. Pretty much every skin of her's but Lunar Wraith has something that looks incredibly wonky, and her base skin + Blade Mistress are both just... terrible. Blade Mistress even suffers from pizza feet dress still. It'd be nice if she kept at least one skin where her top is something more than just a bra, too, but idk how realistic it is to expect that.

I created a Kayle and Morgana concept rework not long ago. https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/skin-champion-concepts/xplEurem-rework-concept-kayle-and-morgana

I was thinking that Kayle should be a range champion with her passive giving her a cone AoE damage. Morgana was oriented so she could go back mid, but she can still be acsupport for her CC and grounding effects instead of being a shield bot.

Morgan le Fey1 votes

I'm pretty sure one of the biggest goals with Kayle is to weaken her ulti, not strengthen it. Maybe even swap away from it. Riot doesn't seem to like full invulnerability very much, and if they shift Kayle away from the Support role they apparently originally thought she'd be in, there's less of a point to it.

As for Morg, I do like the idea for the retribution shield. Sorta goes away from the "freedom" anti-CC stuff and more to a "revenge" theme, but that works well. I really dislike your ulti change, though. A huge part of her ult is positioning to maximize the number of enemies hit. Having a 3s channel where you're rewarded for having everyone right next to you as an incredibly squishy, immobile mage seems like an unintuitive mechanic that'd either make her ult fairly useless (since her ult is already an extremely long stun, you'd have to lower the CC duration further away rather than raise it nearby) or make her build tank (which is so much worse).

In fact, your Morg rework in general looks super tanky. Flat passive HP regen based on minions killed, damage reflection, and an ult that wants you immediately adjacent to your targets for an extended period of time. In fact Morg's Q already rewards you for staying close to your target (seriously, that projectile is slow), and her W is best if you can force them to stand in it if they want to fight her - less need to chain your Q-R combo to get the full W duration that way. This'd shut down any hope she'd have of being a mid mage. In fact, I'm pretty sure that rework would make her a top-lane split push/teamfight tank, similar to Shen. After all, her shove at level 5+ is already pretty amazing. She can pretty much put a W on the caster minions and walk away, and the lane will autopush (in fact, that's the standard backing strategy for me when I take her TT bot - force/wait for the foe to back, W the casters, Q any cannons (or lacking that, a melee) for the extra gold, then b. It bounces by the time you're back. Doesn't work if they're pushed past the middle of lane towards you until you have first item, but after that you can bounce or autopush any empty lane whenever you want.

Don't take this the wrong way, mind - I like some of the ideas and themes in general. They just need a bit of a perspective and role shift. :)

CanadianFarmer1 votes

For W, maybe it should gives her HP based on her total mana, so she has to go a mana build like moremoliccon or roa. As for her ult, you could prob decrease the range of the tether but at the same reduce its channel duration.

As for Kayle, the idea for her ult was to make it have a much bigger CD but, if timed correctly, she is rewarded for it, instead of having it up every 45 second when she is lvl 16 with 40% cdr.

ew no no pls no. Why would she scale off of mana? Outside of Morello's in mid, she hardly even builds mana atm. Occasionally she'll go through RoA metas, but the big mana items rarely synergize with her kit at all. She's not a spammer at all, so building Tear on her outside of ARAMs is a total waste. Why would she have mana scaling?

On the ult: I guess, but that vastly decreases her control of the battlefield. Forcing people to run away from her and having such a large area they have to leave is a big part of dictating the flow of teamfights. I guess it's less that I'm directly opposed to this one so much as I don't understand why.

Well, just making her E - or her range at least - built-in would go a long way towards this. Without needing to rush 100% uptime on E, she doesn't have much reason to build CDR. That said, not needing CDR could just turn her into an ADC, since she wouldn't necessarily have to rush Nashor's and could end up going BotRK first. Guess it depends a lot on implementation. I'm not exactly a Kayle expert. She's just Morg's foolish tyrant sister that I crush with great glee. :P

Disagree on the Black Shield. Her E and Q are basically the only things i think of when i think about Morgana. Her passive (in my opinion) is just an ability that's rarely appreciated for the sustain it provides but that might be good for a mid Morgana (the one role she really isn't being played in a lot anymore) and it is an absolutely useless ability for the bot lane.

I'm split on her ult, to be honest. For one, her Q is such a long range ability that i can't think of a reason why would a squishy Morgana want to be in the middle of the enemy team in order to maximize its usage. At least, the usage should make her a bit more durable in some aspects, rather than requiring an actual Item to be a decent and somewhat safe ability to use. I play her like a long range mage anyway so her ult is just a wasted ability on me. I'd rather not simply go into the enemy team as i'm not Karthus.

What feels even worse is that if you buy Zhonya's, your ult usage is tied to Zhonya's CD of 120 seconds in order to use it effectively. Your actual R CD is irrelevant, if you need to initiate a teamfight. The only way i use my R without a Zhonya's is when i'm trying to scout for invisible enemies (your ult reveals them and becomes available only when they are in range) or when my ally is already under fire and i'm trying to buy time or force the enemy to back off from them.

Her W is a good waveclear tool and essential to her mid lane but if you're playing her as a support, that ability is just being used to proc TD or generate easy gold from FCQ. That's it. It's a waste of mana. Even for her mid lane, that's just a waveclear tool and without her Q hitting the enemy, there's just no way anyone's going to stand in it willingly. I'm completely for reworking this ability or replacing it for something better and much more satisfying to use.

All in all, Morgana might still be a super scaling AP mage but her abilities all require Q to hit. An enemy who is very mobile and the one who outranges you is going to be a real problem. Her Black Shield is an ability that's useless when facing an AD assassin like Zed and Talon. She has too many weaknesses that the enemy can exploit to counter her. Even countering her slightly makes her entire kit unreliable.

#TL;DR

The abilities i think make Morgana... well, Morgana are Q and E. This is the core of her kit. Passive and W can be changed. The ult depends on these two abilities first. Giving her incentive or statuses for going into melee is a must, not buying a Zhonya's. If this doesn't happen, just rework it as well.

Even if i'm a Morgana main, it doesn't mean that every Morgana main would agree with me. Everyone has something they'd like to remove or keep. But in any case, i've never really given her eventual rework much thought, in terms of what exactly i'd like to see from it. But most definitely i'd like for her to be an antithesis to Kayle and that even her kits would reflect their lore, personalities and convictions. I most definitely like Morgana's "cather" side and i would like her to remain a burst combo mage.

Sincerely, a Morgana main.

AirKingNeo1 votes

I'm just saying her Black shield and passive seem very out of place for her kit. The rest is bind, take this DoT field, and get chained too. Sure, black shield makes you CC immune while chaining, but that's about it.

Also I'm not really caring about lore. I just don't want champions messed up for no reason (but at least the rework team for single champions does a good job, unlike someone who messed up Kindred).

Elikain1 votes

In what way were Kindred messed up? Current crit synergy is a lot better than their full on-tilt damage, in my opinion. I mean, Kindred don't have any abilities that deal straightforward damage, it's all basically tied to AA and Wolf can do some DPS.

AirKingNeo1 votes

51.37% winrate, drops to 44%.

Crit synergy sucks because you're forced into buying a jungle enchantment, that gives no Crit, lifesteal, or armor pen. So, 1) Your powerspike is massively delayed, and 2) You only get 50% crit chance maximum unless you sacerfice a lifesteal item, an armor pen item, or your jungle enchantment.

Elikain1 votes

I agree that their build currently isn't ideal (for a jungler that doesn't go for crit). But i don't think they're going to be switching items to suit Kindred specifically. Simply because they are classified as Marksmen that primarily go to the jungle and while in the past, you only had to buy all the on-hit items there were to be good, now you can opt into a straight zeal item (or IE/Essence Reaver) and pretend to be a second Marksman that synergizes with their items.

Riot has also said that even after these changes and the previous Kindred buffs, they still look like they're underperforming and they are likely looking at another set of buffs in the next patch or so. At least now i have a reason to play them as real Marksmen.

Their old kit and on-hit itemization wasn't good when i played them. I simply despise these builds (like Kayle's and old Kog's) where you dive deep into multiple of these items. Remember that Bloodrazor was removed for the same reason.

AirKingNeo1 votes

Actually their itemization was fine. They could add "converts 50% of critical strike chance into attack speed" and fix their AD ratios and Kindred would actually be good.

Elikain1 votes

Kindred Q already gives a stacking AS buff. Adding another passive steroid that converts their crit strike into additional AS (with even more and required AS you're getting from crit items) would just be overbuffing them for no reason.

Especially when they're thinking of improving base damage or a bringing a bit more AD ratio into some of their abilities for the future.

One Morgana Main to another, I understand a lot of what you're saying, and it makes sense. I generally play her in the mid slot, and while I'd be okay with Riot changing things, I'd want them to be very careful.

Her passive and W are actually great balance levers, as they are now. Want to buff Mid Morgana, but not Support? Up the passive from 10%-20% to 15%-30%, and lower the mana costs on W from 70-85-100-115-130 to 70-80-90-100-110. There. Support Morgana is basically untouched while Mid Morgana got a sizable boost.

Listing things that are important to me as Mid Morg

Fast efficient wave clear from early levels with minimal payment.

High threat-pick potential by herself when hitting a Q.

The E shield CC immunity, especially the way it combines with her innate sustain to make it really hard to shove/dive Morgana off the wave.

High counter-engage (Mid Morgana is obnoxiously good at this).

Levers for Riot to pull so that, if Morgana hits a situation where she's 45% Mid win rate, and 54% Support Win rate, they can change it so she's 49%-51% respectively. Aka, I want her as a Mid, not as a Support.

Things I'd be willing to give up

The passive. While I like it in terms of sustain, provided Riot meets the above, I'd be more than happy for something more inventive.

Her ultimate, while I really enjoy it (especially for the Lvl 6 100-0 flash all in), it does give her this "I want to be forever away, but then Go Ham for 3 seconds). Granted, this is part of the balance lever on the ultimate, and her anti-synergy with this spell is why Morgana is allowed to have it. If they wanted to go more of a battlefield control/artillery direction, I could get behind that.

I will note that her ult does have use cases, partly based on when the enemy dives your team, and your ability to build bulky enough to not be insta-gibbed up until the late game.

Puddle could also go, but I'm not sure how they'd fit her with a kit that has 'safe' and 'has wave clear' without it, or something very similar. That said, it is kind of slaved to the Q for anything PvP related.

The Q and E are sacred, though. Perfect spells.

If anything, I'd like to see Morgana be pulled away from the Zhoynas interaction. League Of Mobility makes that not work out, combined with Zhoynas being crippled so hard stat wise, I just almost never buy the thing anymore.

Elikain2 votes

I'm used to this Morgana and i've grown to like her and play her like she already is. But her kit design is pretty dated, even if it's still as strong as it used to be. But having a lot of mobility options in League nowadays, puts her kit into the bin most of the times. Her Q has quite a fair speed and hitbox and the only mastery currently you can display as a Morgana main is your ability to hit snares consistently, in multitude of situations.

That's a pretty low bar to try to hit. Her mastery curve leaves a lot to be desired. Now, this doesn't mean she has to become a lot more complicated mage (like Katarina for example) but just that there has to be more options for Morgana players to show their growth.

And just as you've said, her W is a slave to her Q. In mid lane, it's an important thing for her to manage minion waves so you'd want to level her W anyway, because hitting her Q on max range (and quite possibly having to deal with minions as well) isn't worth the early points. Her snare duration is really high (2 seconds base) and that's pretty much you'd want to care about in ganks. It can be a 1 point wonder ability, given the low mobility matchups. Her Q's CD is static anyway.

In terms of how much change i'd expect from her in the future, i don't really know. I think her design is solid but just needs modernization (same as Warwick). I don't think she needs Galio level or work (everything new) but if Riot basically keeps her core familiar to us Morgana players, i don't think i would mind it even if she looked a bit different. In any case, i know Riot's going to fit the design with the narrative and that she wouldn't look out of place. But i'm just too used to her "bra with a dress" look, that's a part of her charm for me.

I agree, but not touching that would be a huge limiter on what they can do with her. Her W is prolly the least-iconic part of her kit, sadly.

Listing things that are important to me as Mid Morg

Fast efficient wave clear from early levels with minimal payment.

This is sorta what makes Midgana a thing. Without it, she'd be relegated exclusively to support unless some other huge change was made.

High threat-pick potential by herself when hitting a Q.

Yesss. Same for support Morg, for this one. Her most important ability by far.

The E shield CC immunity, especially the way it combines with her innate sustain to make it really hard to shove/dive Morgana off the wave.

High counter-engage (Mid Morgana is obnoxiously good at this).

These sorta go together. Morg's one of the very few champions with whom I prefer to 1v2. She's so safe that the level advantage makes a huge difference, and gets me lots of kills on the rare occasion I get to do it.

Levers for Riot to pull so that, if Morgana hits a situation where she's 45% Mid win rate, and 54% Support Win rate, they can change it so she's 49%-51% respectively. Aka, I want her as a Mid, not as a Support.

A lot of this prolly depends on goals for the rework. Is Morg meant to be support, mid, or both? I really really hope they don't kill her mid (and in fact despite being a support Morg main would rather see her mid/top than support). She's too fun as a damage-y mage to just give that up.

Things I'd be willing to give up

The passive. While I like it in terms of sustain, provided Riot meets the above, I'd be more than happy for something more inventive.

Yeah, I'd really be very happy if they replaced or at least reworked the passive. Changing that would be esp. good for support Morg, since there's very little sustain without damage, but in general it's just a chunk of outdated stats. Useful, but there could be much more interesting options for her.

I will note that her ult does have use cases, partly based on when the enemy dives your team, and your ability to build bulky enough to not be insta-gibbed up until the late game.

Yeah, her ult is really weird on her kit. Don't get me wrong, it's loads of fun, and gives her a ton of playmaking potential but it puts her early-game in a position of building for teamfights or damage, but not both. It synergizes well with her Q for a single target, and with her E if the foes are all about magic damage, but it's otherwise just a really strange ability in an otherwise super ranged-oriented kit. If there are any candidates for total replacement, it's the ult, imo.

Puddle could also go, but I'm not sure how they'd fit her with a kit that has 'safe' and 'has wave clear' without it, or something very similar. That said, it is kind of slaved to the Q for anything PvP related.

Yeah, this is sorta her biggest issue imo. She's super-binary. Either you land your Q and everything else, or you miss your Q and you do very little damage. Granted, with that Q, it's hard to not make it about comboing off of her Q, but I would like to see more tools that aren't so intrinsically reliant on Q.

The Q and E are sacred, though. Perfect spells.

Q is the one I care the most about. E is amazing, but losing Q would kill her as a champion for me. That pick potential - long-range, slow-moving skill shot with very high reward for consistent accuracy - is what makes her so good for me. My reflexes are terrible, and my focus is poor, but my skill shots and prediction are ~high gold-low plat from what I'm told.

If anything, I'd like to see Morgana be pulled away from the Zhoynas interaction. League Of Mobility makes that not work out, combined with Zhoynas being crippled so hard stat wise, I just almost never buy the thing anymore.

oh gosh yes please. Especially with itemization as it is, relying hard on one item in order to use your primary teamfight tool without dying is terrible. This is prolly my #1 priority for her rework. So many fun, fascinating Morg builds ruined by the forced Zhonya's first/second item.

In a sense, Riven is good and Yas is more chaotic. Riven wants to keep an idea of a pure nation where you're judged on strength and usefulness, not blood lines. so hes made a few bad choices (slight understatement) and drinking helps him sleep at night, doesnt make him evil, just kinda dumb. his goal is to clear his name and its heavily hinted that riven is the one who killed his master. while not confirmed, it does still set them up as rivals. yas has a bit of a chaotic nature about him but that just comes along with being an outlaw (eg. tf and graves). pretty sure riven is in the a similar boat. still, its not really about good vs evil cuz someone can be lawful (orderly) and still be evil or on the reverse side they can be chaotic and still be good
