TIL that Galio's german VO references the Gargoyles cartoon

I don't usually listen to german VO, mostly because I feel it's low effort and somewhat cringey but I thought I'd give Galio's VO a listen. And I was pleasantly surprised that it's actually pretty good.

But what really caught my eye(?)/ear was one particular quote that doesn't have an English counterpart.

And I Quote: "Galio, Auf den Schwingen der Gerechtigkeit."

Which is a direct reference to the Cartoon's German title: "Gargoyles, Auf den Schwingen der Gerechtigkeit", the proper translation of it being: Gargoyles/Galio: On Wings of Justice

Which really fits the Demacian Colossus to a tee.

Just a fun little tidbit I wanted to share.

When a reference so obviously even foreign countries just know it has to be made, but then Riot said "Nah".

Did you guys know that PENTAKILL Karthus´ german voice over has a line referencing "Rammstein" the german band?

One of the joke lines are: "Du, du hast, du hast mir den kill geklaut!" = "You, you did, you did steal my kill!"

Reference to Rammstein´s song "Du hast". :D

Hopefully that'll teach you to give your own language a try.

I'm a translator, and very often I see videogames with excellent translations and even more impressive dubbings in my own language.... only to see the kids play the game in English (even if their English isn't even fluent) because it's the hip thing to do and all hail 'Murica.

What is your primary language?

Ninja.

It's hard to learn, but if you ask me my answer will more than likely be "shur-i-ken."

"with excellent translations"

Tbh, I have no idea about the ingame voice anymore, but the german translation for the Universe site ARE awful. And I'm not even exaggerate it, I have screenshots about phrase and words which were not translate into the german language, spelling errors/grammatical errors and sentences, which literally lost their original context. This is not a good translation work.

Back in 2013 I played league with the german client and the german voice acting isn't good as well. The most german voice are just unfitting for the champions. Sometimes they are some gems as well (I still enjoy the german voice for Talon and Morgana more), however why would I go for german VO, if I understand the english ones as well? Translation is always interpretation as well, so I prefer to consume it in the original language whenever possible.

However, you are right, there are books there I enjoyed the translation more than the original. Exceptions prove the rule, tho.

I mean, isn't listening to the American English voice cast by the American based game company no different than people who'd rather watch movies or anime or whatever in the native tongue because that's the creators intent?

Why did this have to turn into America bashing?

Such a fantastic show. Seriously, the kinds of shows we had in the 90's, Ducktales, Gargoyles, Batman: The Animated Series, Aladdin, Darkwing Duck... Man I feel old now.
