Was it ever said my Val jumped into the Pit too? Or why Varus needed two bodies?
What title says, seem like two really big plot points for the Varus retcon that never were addressed

Because the writers were so tunnel-visioned on how much they liked the idea of the character that they completely ignored the story they were trampling over, the lore of the Darkin they were trampling over, the thematic coherence of the character in-game they were trampling over, how Riot once told their players, "The point isn’t to tear up older stories that form their own cherished part of League’s history," and the consistency of their own story outside of the core concept itself.
I think Val jumped into this pit with Kai,because he was worried about Kai.
After all the video does show it to be filled with water,so he was most likely worried that Kai might simply drown if he only threw him in there. Another possibility is that it is because of the prophecy that their souls would be connected(or something like that),so Val figured out that this prophecy was talking about this exact moment and thus jumped into the pool as well,fully knowing that it would fuse him and Kai in some sort.
As for Varus needing 2 bodies: I'd say there are 3 different possibilities here: 1.Maybe there are different kinds of darkins needing different bodies?After all Varus does look quite different from Aatrox or Rhaast. 2.He simply took 2 bodies,because the opportunity was there.He could have used just one if he wanted to,but using 2 he was able to craft a body that was more suitable to his tastes/more powerful 3.It might have made it easier for Varus to take over the body.Val wanted to save Kai at all costs,so he might have unknowingly made a pact with Varus,essentially giving up their bodies to him in order to save Kai,to fuse their souls like the prophecy said.Of course Varus control isn't perfect as Val did wanted the 2 of them to live on together,so they are still part of Varus,but they aren't primarly in control.
Well, Val and Kai wanted to be together forever, being in love and all. So Val, Kai, and Varus are basically crammed into Val's body because the guys want to be together and the darkin needs a healthy host.
So yeah, that's why.
Pretty sure their bodies were like melting together in that pool. Like Vayne's decrepit essence/body melded with Val & Kais bodies and they all just kinda oozed into one being. So it's not that Varus needed 2 bodies, two bodies were just there and probably enables him to look more human than other Darkin.
