Will the four remaining Darkin will become champions?
Or will they remain as enigmatic background characters who may or may not appear in the lore later on?

just for me to get things strait there are 7 darkin's in total 3 of which are already champions those being

Well considering that during Jhin's development they entertained the idea of making him a darkin, I'm fairly certain we'll see more of them in the future. They just have to not take up the space Aatrox occupies (Demon commander) and other champions in the roster. It's totally doable!
But more importantly: did TSM wonnered?
That would be amazing.The yordles have a bunch of champions so why can't the darkin be released onto the rift :C
Well in the lore I believe it says only 3 of the Darkin are known to history, and puts a lot of emphasis on Aatrox's weapon, which got me thinking maybe the darkin aren't what we think.
Maybe the Darkin are actually some form of weapon, maybe Aatrox's blade is possessing someone, it would help explain the extreme lifespan of Aatrox, the sword could just get a new owner every hundred years or so and possess him, transforming the new owner's body into the appearance of Aatrox.
Perhaps in that manner Brand could also be a Darkin, a caged fire burning from nothing that possessed a man and transformed his body into a molten demon.
Anyone else that fits that description? Oh, wait. 
. Possessed by a dark energy inside a temple and his body is transforming from it.

Most likely yes. They considered making jhin a darkin in the early stages,but thought it would actually make him less scarier if he wasn't human.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had some rough plans for some darkin(probably not everyone though),because the darkin seem to be LoLs equivalent to classical demons(with lols actual demons being a bit different and more spirit like,like tahm kench),which means that the 4 darkin are pretty much their only shot for more classical demon champs.
