I really don't want them to change his lore that much. Being an undead former conqueror is amazing, and all he needs is a kit rework and some visual updates.

That is his new lore, that's not being changed. Anything updated after the Bildgewater event is 100 percent canon. Anything before are all subject to change.

I doubt Morde mains would want to wait this long for a quality skin only to have it be a joke mocking how bad he was beforehand.

I would prefer it be an actual skin that is a "hehe" reference to this aspect of him, like a PROJECT skin where he is a robotic enforcer, except he is incredibly bugged and is the exact opposite of a protector of the law.
