Let's just take a moment to look at this sad, sad model.

  • The face and eyes in general look completely plastered on like a bad figurine from the dollar store.
  • Wonky proportions. One arm looks bigger than the other, giant elephant feet, torso could not support that upper body.
  • HIS TONGUE COLOR DOES NOT MATCH THE ART COLOR
  • Hair looks like a giant spiky pit.
  • His animations, likewise, are pretty bad.

All too often I think we give Mundo a pass because he's iconic and a lot of people really like his old model. That does not excuse the shape he is in, however!

I personally don't think Mundo needs love on the level of Sion or maybe even Karthus. I think if you gave him a little bit of an update, cleaned up his look and give him some new animations/particles to bring him up to date with the likes of Garen and the others, he could be amazing. But as of now, nobody even acknowledges the state he is in and I think that's a sour note.

My biggest worry with Mundo is that they will pull a Sion. I liked the Sion rework, don't get me wrong. But we went from "WHO IS YOUR SUMMONER, AND WHAT DOES HE DO?" to "THESE BOOTS WILL HELP ME WADE THROUGH THE BLOOD OF MY ENEMIES."

Mundo is not grimdark. Do not make Mundo grimdark. I think it's okay with Sion, because he got such a nice new story to go with the VU, and he honestly wasn't exactly iconic. Mundo though, like you said, is iconic. Everyone knows Mundo. Everyone loves Mundo. It's a tricky balance to strike between updating him and maybe making him match his lore better, or accidentally making him too serious.

Anyway.. we were just talking about this yesterday. One of our 3D artists is a big fan of making crazy brute characters and was wondering where he was at on the list. Right now we don't have him hard slotted, but I do have a concept for him hanging around.

One of the current challenges with him is that we would have to do an entire teardown of his old character art if we wanted to do what we'd LIKE to do. Which is probably along the lines of less of a grape flavored Hulk, with the ripped shirt, pants and all. I think the big semi-grotesque upper body would stay similar with his legs being more or less.. not "normal".. but less deformed. Putting him solidly in the "freak" category and not the "hulk" category which is where we've put Sion. He very much needs a new rig to execute at the level we'd want to. There's even a thought of him model-swapping to a larger, more brutal version of himself when he's ulting. This is all talk though, don't take it as a feature promise.

Something I'd like to play around with is figuring out something different to do with his clothing rather than literally a ripped white shirt and brown pants. I was talking with the guys and we were thinking maybe he has what's left of whatever he used to harness himself up to an experimental injection device, or something that feels a little more in line with Zaun.. which isn't exactly well defined right now either.. There's some references like final-boss Fontaine from Bioshock or when Shwarzenegger is restrained in Total Recall when they're trying to wipe his brain, and he pulls off an arm restraint and stabs a guy through the head. I dunno, something that's pieces of wreckage, hard material or "clothing" that tells some sort of story.

Let me know if that's an interesting idea and we'll play around.

I think his character and personality, which are so iconic to League, are the very reason why Riot doesn't want to touch him right now. With this community, any change can and will be taken negatively in some circles because the diehard Mundos don't want their Mundo touched... mundo.

Also, if the visual changes end up too drastic, which is itself extremely subjective, many other fans will cry havoc. Riot understands that there is only so far they can go, but that line is too blurry right now with so many other projects on the table.

I agree that he needs some attention, but I just don't see Riot picking up the stylus for the good Doctor anytime soon.

well, knowing Riot they probably will try to find a concrete direction for Dr. Mundo, because well, Juggernaut is kind of already taken by Sion. Health tank is probably his most prominent feature but unlike ZacZAC he's geared more towards AD... still the question lingers: what archetype could he fill? he looks like Jekyll and mr Hyde, without Jekyll that is ._. or maybe just the Hulk in the "I SMASH" sense, is Mundo a brute of sorts perhaps? how can Riot enhance the feeling of playing a brute without stepping in GnarGnar's territory?

I think Mundo needs a gameplay update as well, with the removal of executioner's calling you're left with ignite and some skills to counter his ult... blind pick against a Mundo can be a pain in the ass, though the game is not balanced around blind pick. Still he needs some number tweaks and new visuals that tell you what's going on (I remember it took me a loooong time when I started playing to figure out what dem balls did xD)

When they do get to mundo, im hoping they give corporate some custom effects besides cleaver, the rest seem a little...dull

If I could say, if he were reworked they should of done a shape shifting passive like Gnar. He would run around as a mad scientist with different abilities

Q- Syringe Toss (Just like cleaver, it slows less but does DoT) W- Vial Smash (Toss a vial at the ground exploding and knocking up self/target) (imagine ziggs) E- Injection/Self Injection (Goes up close to enemy and stabs them with a syringe morphing them) or (Self injection 3 times to become the big Guy) R- Passive (Increased movement speed and defense while in scientist form)

For big Mundo basically keep everything the same but maybe change a few minor things
