With Bilgewater wrapping up next...where do you think the lore team's headed next?

ModCaptainMårvelous·8/2/2015, 7:32:41 PM·14 votes·8,499 views

Poll included.

So outside of returning to Freljord/Shurima, which I don't think we'll see for a while, curious as to what you guys think is next.

Personally, I think Bandle City or Targon is next on the plate. Why?

#Targon...

  • Has a very small champion population of Pantheon Leona Diana, which means a lore event can be hyper focused even with introducing a new character.
  • Targon is very muddy when it comes to lore, giving the lore team ample room to work.
  • People love the Diana/Leona rivalry and I'm sure the lore team is itching to get back into it.

#Bandle City...

  • Is very unknown in terms of characters and rife for inspection
  • Has a large cast of yordles that can be worked with, even if some are in other places (Heimerdinger in Piltover, Poppy technically in Demacia, etc)
  • The lore event could coincide with Poppy rework and possibly a new yordle.
  • Could tie it to an invasion or other scientific problem.

So what do you guys thing?

harrowing and the full mystery story on Evelynn i hope, but that is too wishful thinking.

Well, if the Bandle City event coincides with Poppy, then it def won't happen til 2016. Regardless of the once a year thing.

I'm also anticipating Bilgewater to actually continue development through the Harrowing.

We're off to see the wizard!

I want the Void to be touched on. We literally know next to nothing about the Void other than it's coming.

Really tough to say. Bligewater didn't come out of any major update but just from a side project they created.

I would think any good candidate has to have characters with a strong connection and story that needs to be moved foward. My guess for likely contenders are

  1. Piltover - Vi Caitlyn Jinx Viktor Jayce

I could easily see a story that addresses the Jinx and Vi rivalry. Theres room for them to introduce "C" as a new champion and to update Caitlyn. I could also see an Alliance being made between Vikor and "C" also.

  1. Noxus - Darius Katarina Leblanc Swain Talon Vladimir Urgot Sion

There's a lot of unanswered questions about the internal poltics of Noxus. The Urgot relaunch is looming in the future. Swain and LeBlanc could definitely use a VU.

They should make a legend of zelda style game with Leona where she interacts with other characters trying to bring light back to the world of runeterra. Solves puzzles, gets into weird boss fights like Karthus Mordekaiser Shaco Zed Lissandra Cassiopeia Diana Darius Draven Elise Kalista Nocturne Morgana would given them a good opportunity to branch out the lore, and add more games to their roster.

I voted Piltover/Zaun because there is a big story there leading off of this event but also with the character connections between Caitlyn Vi Jinx and Ekko.

Another thought though is Shadow Isles since Bilgewater is now in chaos and another Harrowing can happen.

Other

  • Where was Twisted Fate before Bilgewater: Burning Tides?
  • Where was Graves before Bilgewater: Burning Tides?

By going backwards in story and lore we can finally reveal more about Kayle's ancient before-time events of war and/or other ancient races. Right? A timeline of events that can then be repeated each two-yearly sequentially.

Fried Noob8/2/2015, 9:52:46 PM2 votes

I say Plitover simply because (unless I'm remembering wrong) Graves and TF were going to head to Piltover at the end of Act 3 of Burning Tides, so it could lead nicely into stories in Piltover and Zaun, talking about Vi, Caitlyn, Jinx, and the rest of them. Either that or it will be Shadow Isles, since the Harriwing is fast approaching and Bilgewater is in no shape to contain it this year.

Personally, I want there to be more stories about Aatrox and the rest of the Darkin, but I don't see that happening.

Silents4298/3/2015, 8:37:00 AM2 votes

Given October is rolling around in a couple months I want to say we get a Shadow Isles event going, I really want some new creepy skins and I plan to try getting haunted Mao Kai this year, and pumpkin head fiddle if I can afford it.

Definitely want to see Mount Targon. My lovely Leona needs more storytelling!

ElJanitorFrank8/2/2015, 10:11:51 PM2 votes

Well...Graves/TF are headed for Piltover, MF is headed for Piltover, and I would definitely wager of GP going to Piltover to pursue MF.

I don't want to say that because of this, they are going to Piltover next, definitely not. However, they are almost certainly going to visit Piltover in the future.

Ebonmaw Dragon8/2/2015, 7:43:35 PM2 votes

Bandle City vs Noxus according to some images.

Piltover vs Zaun... Graves and TF went to Piltover, GP need a new mechanical hand... so, it would bne a good continuation

The Harrowing 3.0 as every year

MrBuffington8/2/2015, 7:45:58 PM2 votes

I voted Piltover since I think it'd be funny if the lore was just "The continuing adventures of Graves and TF"

I think you're on to something with Mt. Targon or Bandle City, though; they've mentioned they really want to get a better idea of what both those places are (similar to things they've said about Bilgewater in the past), plus what you mentioned about Poppy's relaunch (we had a mini lore event with Sion's relaunch).

I feel like Piltover-Zaun is a possibility, since they teased that with Ekko and I feel like they might be looking to go further

A lot of lore in the past has centered around Demacia/Noxus/Ionia, but I wouldn't be surprised if they take another crack at it post-retcon. I feel like they still need to place a lot of the characters that were displaced with the retcon (Ryze, Jax, Alistar, etc), or characters that are sort of floating to begin with/especially post-retcon (does Annie still live with her parents, or is she roughing it out in the woods?) but they might also just put that off in favor of a more solidified region. Graham McNeill is now officially a part of the team (he hadn't settled in by the time Bilgewater was ready to launch, iirc), I'm not sure how much influence he has on directions they pursue (they mentioned he's not narrative lead, but a senior writer), but he could pull them in a completely unexpected direction.

ModWulf Helhammer8/2/2015, 7:47:12 PM2 votes

Ok, you just reminded me of how awesome a Targon event would be. I was going to vote Piltover/Zaun (which should be in one thing, you can't have one without the other, like Demacia and Noxus), but Targon, with Leona and Diana rumors, and the possibility for new champions, that's a pretty exciting thought

SaltyToplaneGoat8/2/2015, 8:18:56 PM2 votes

I think the next event will be the harrowing. But if, IF we get one before that it might be a Piltover one - that region has been mentioned a lot in the Bilgewater story...

Probably being transferred to the skins department so they can pump out Chromas faster

Freljord we need more of Lissandra Ashe Sejuani

NorthernDruid8/4/2015, 12:07:05 AM1 votes

Well, it doesn't really matter which unconnected story they tell next. In about a month, the previously-lore will have been settingless for a year!

I'm so exited to be able to say they took out the core setting concepts from their story and left them there for a year.

Kinjishi8/4/2015, 3:08:42 AM1 votes

Harrowing is in October. That is our next destination. ...and really hope Riot does something exciting for it. Been looking forward to how they expand on the bits they put out last year. Hopefullly they have something as nice as the Bilgewater event.

GreenLore8/4/2015, 3:46:42 PM1 votes

I guess we'll get a small harrowing evetn this year again, but I doubt that it will involve any major lore.

Otherwise I think Ionia could need an event the most. The retcons affected them more than any other(since we don't know now how they defeated the noxians) and they have been building up the conflict between those who cling to the peaceful traditions of ionia(like Soraka or Kennen ) and those who are against them(like Syndra ,Zed & Varus ) for quite some time, with Shen & Karma being more or less in the middle of the 2.

Helmight8/4/2015, 4:49:16 AM1 votes

There was a leak about a potential event for Bandle City, so that's my guess. Especially given Riot's comments about an upcoming yordle champion

NeoJusteBelmont8/3/2015, 10:55:35 PM1 votes

Going to Targon would be very beneficial as it lacks champions. But what if Riot ends up transplanting other 'neutral' champions into Targon rather than introducing a bunch of new ones? Alistar comes to mind...

But most importantly, I think this opens up the way for Riot to improve over Pantheon, who, right now, has a same problem thematically with Gangplank: He's right now just a Sparta clone. I'm curious in how he might implement himself in the Leona - Diana rivalry.

But I just hope that they don't end up killing him (even if he's gonna be brought back) like Gangplank
