Does anyone else think Jhin's appearance is a bit disapointing?

Now that we've seen a bit more about where he hails from I'm curious as to what people think. I'm very surprised to see he's from Ionia and while I like some of what's going on I can't help but think that it doesn't go very well with the design we're presented.

Maybe it was due to another thread or maybe from what I noticed but judging by his appearance and his use of gold/white and use of flower motif, but nothing obviously Ionian I was hoping to see him associated with Demacia more. Nothing about him comes off as Ionian from appearance. Granted appearances can be hard to place with some champions I feel a bit off put that he looks like he belongs to another city-state.

I agree. I feel like maybe they're trying to show us that ionia isn't all balance and peace. Maybe it's more artistic than all of the other nations

I believe it's intentional that he doesn't look like the other Ionians. His quote when buying Ionian Boots is "Ionian footwear, sadly so obvious", and he has numerous quotes to other people from his country that show he doesn't think Ionia has progressed as far as it should. He's supposed to be a foil for other Ionian champions, that's why he looks so different.

There's the fact that all his little references are to Western theater tradition, not Eastern, too.

Yeah. That is a thing isn't it. Ugh.

I think Jhin represents the influence from the outside world.

Ionia is a country that is held back by its own culture(a common theme among darker ionian champions Varus Zed Syndra ),Jhin however looks like he fits the other cultures more than the ionian and with his equipment it is safe to say that he did visit other states.

All this kinda mirrors how japan was rather xenophob for a long time, causing it to be left behind in terms of technology, but once they overcame that, their technological level advanced pretty fast.

Maybe? I think it makes for a compelling argument but it makes it rather confusing from a design standpoint or an initial look. I feel I should understand him more at a glance. Ionia has a very large pool of characters too, so that may be another point of contention for me when looking at him critically.

There are things I like about him but he feels really all over the place.
