I thought that Riot wants to avoid doubling factions after each other when it comes to VGUs, but now we are getting 2 VGUs for Ionia after each other:
Seems like Ionia is always the exception when it comes to this stuff, we got 3 champions from Ionia in a row last year as well....
Really disappointed about this choice, but we can't help it anymore.
The thing is that while they likely want to avoid doubling factions,it is not like there is a hard rule that forbids them from doing it. They probably had a solid direction for Akali and thus chose her,even though that would mean that we'd get 2 ionians in a row.

The introduction of Xayah and Rakan was more the Vastaya revamp/introduction than a Ionia lore expansion, as well as Kayn is most importantly an expansion to the Darkins than to Ionia.
Even if that makes a lot of Ionia champions recently, it would make sense to have both Irelia and Akali released not too far apart as they would be doing an Ionia lore update. They did the same back in 2015 with tge Burning Tides event, granting GP a VGU and MF VU.
It’s because Riot reworks champions when they have an idea. It doesn’t matter really where they are from.
you never know maybe Akali will become a void born
The more important problem is that Akali definately didn't need higher priority than a lot of others yet they pick her first just like Swain and Irelia
I was pretty sure they just wanted to avoid doing champions in the same roles. Irelia being a Diver and Akali an Assassin would say they are different there so..

Don't hate me with this satomikun and i'm not defending riot but I think it is because Ionia is huge and is a massive continent like Valoran/ The Shuriman Continent. Valoran consist of many regions like noxus, demacia, freljord?, piltover and zaun. Meaning, its like you're saying why does the next VGU/New champ comes from noxus while the next VGU/new champ after that is from demacia. Imagine irelia is from noxus while akali is from demacia and they are living in the same continent called valoran. And riot just adopted the continents as the factions and not by countries/nations. It does make sense right? Plus, there's like only 3 known continents in Runeterra. What i want riot to explain is to why ionia gets the better treatment of this updates and explain it in a nexus article. But this is just my honest opinion lol and i think you are right that ionia is an exception of the doubling of factors rule because of this opinion above.
