What's revealed in the Roadmap for Swain and how it links to his old-lore self
So, first of, thank you Riot for this sneak-peek of new!Swain today <3
Even though it's doesn't really reveal much, it is so great to actually see some kind of concrete image of what we can look forward to in about February next year. I'm already trying to imagine how my favourite Tyrant Swain skin would be adapted onto that frame. Because I will say this, Swain looking a little more broad-shouldered than I thought he'd be. Not saying that's a negative, just the vibe, feels a lot more physical imposing than I thought he'd be.
Okay, so reading the description, I'm also really glad that you guys decide to keep him in the frontline. Swain being this oppressive tanky HP-mage-tank thing in bird form is definitely one of the most defining parts of his kit. The idea of the not-so-fragile mage. I think if you had shifted him to a backline-mage route, he'd really just be a sandless
So I'm really happy that this large-and-in-charge general in the front is what he's gonna be. I'm just excited on how 'monstrous' or how his raven form is going to be incorporated.
But also from the description, I'm really happy with these lines in particular, which I feel like is you guys hinting about his story a bit. The title of his description blurb is:
THE COST OF AMBITION
And then you end off with
What will you sacrifice?
And this really reminds me of this one key part in Swain's old lore. And this was actually in
's League Judgement at the time.
So he's talking to LeBlanc, and she reveals that Swain had sacrificed himself to be what he is/was - and it's implied it is for both his position as General, and the raven powers. And Swain did admit that he 'made sacrifices, but I made them for us', where 'us' implied him, LeBlanc, and the Black Rose in general.
I don't think that it's going to be 1:1 transplant of whatever the narrative back then in the old!lore. But I really love that you guys are keeping this idea of 'self-sacrifice' and 'cost' on Swain's part. I think it is really important to keep this idea that Swain's power was never easily got. His old history was him being an invalid in an army that suffers no weakness, and despite the raven powers, he always suffered some kind of pushback, even political at the last part of his old!lore.
I hope that the 'sacrifice' is not simply for 'more power', but is really for 'more power to serve the greater good' situation. It really just boils down to what the 'greater good' means to Swain.
Anyway, my two cents. I'm a happy camper, looking forward to February-ish for the full VGU. Thanks Riot!~
