Question about the lore.

Since servers are down for me, I'll use this time to ask something that has been bothering me for a while.

So I used to read the lore, and I kind of liked how it explained why the champions were in the League of Legends. Example: Maokai was a tree in the Twisted Treeline that got infused with magic, and he just wants to return. Until then, he fights in the League. Also Fiora. She entered the League to prove she is the greatest duelist. These weren't great explanations, but at least they made sense with Summoner's Rift.

Now, I read lores like Gnar's and Azir's, and it makes no freaking sense why they are in the League of Legends. Gnar's lore just says he's a cute little yordle who can be vicious. So was he captured by summoners and forced to fight in the League? Who knows.

I agree...I wish there were more events like the Noxus vs Ionia event they did back in the day, where the victory for the Ionian team lead to the creation of the Ionian Boots of Lucidity. That kind of stuff would be cool to see come up again

Sion "Who is your summoner, and what does he do?"

It's not just Gnar and Azir, but almost every new champ released since September 2012.

For the past few years, Riot's been trying to get rid of the "League of Legends" from League of Legends. It started with the removal of League Judgments and Karma's lore rework and continued on from there. It's only in the past two months that this effort to remove League was acknowledged.

Narrative is also trying to experiment with different ways of telling their champion bios. For example, Heimerdinger's science journal or Braum tale told in the manner of a grandmother's bedtime story.

In short, what Riot's Narrative department wants us to do is come up with our own headcanon reasons for the champs to join the League and let them do what they want to do... which is draw a paycheck.

Overall the league has been retconned(or will be retconned eventually,so far nothing happened when that would get contradicted by the league)
