I really like how even though he's arrogant, he does eventually come around in the color story to helping that girl.
Also, it's cool how he finally saw how his colleagues all felt with him around when he was trying to find a use for that crystal, maybe he'll soften up. Maybe not. XD

midnight oil241 votesI still kind of feel like he's a jerk. He refuses to help his friend, thinks that he's always in the right, and the one time he realizes that maybe he's been a jerk, he very quickly gets treated better. He suffers no consequences for the what he put the other inventors through.
Not very tragic, IMO.

He's isolated from everyone else, making him very alone, and is evident that others do not condone his rudeness too (Hence his colleagues getting the Crystal first). "Refusing to help his friend", his friend who very evidently did not care for free will as much as he did. To someone who very much is in support of Free Will, seeing someone who'd sacrifice it is way far from "helping".
How does he get treated better? He never actually apologized to his peers, and all he got was the admiration of people who probably haven't dealt with his rudeness. All he ever really realized was that maybe, MAYBE, he should be a bit more understanding of others.
midnight oil241 votesBut we never see Viktor's perspective. How do we know there was no free will involved? This is goddamn Piltover and Zaun, where people just augment themselves. I see no reason why Viktor would be forcing anyone to take the augments. While Viktor shouldn't have assaulted Jayce, Jayce still needs to see punishment for breaking and entering and destruction of property. Both guys should have at least five years of jailtime.
And he doesn't seem to feel alone. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but he doesn't seem to care if the other inventors hate him or not. So nothing really negative comes from his isolation.
ModAcademy Kayn2 votesHe talked about lack of free will with the Loading Dock Suit, where the person would be unable to disobey their orders. Though we do not know Viktor's side, we are only seeing Jayce's perspective. Even if they volunteered for the Machine Upgrade, Jayce still doesn't think that they'll be able to do whatever they want, hence lack of free of will.
He broke and entered a building in Zaun. They don't really care about "Rules", let alone Piltover to respect them.
midnight oil241 votesBut Piltover seems to enforce the laws down there as well. That's why Caitlyn went there on cases. It's not as powerful, sure, but it still exists down there. Just because Zaun is a place that provides a lot of freedom doesn't give it a pass on laws. I think singed only still operates because he's got investors in hight places.

Oleandervine1 votesI actually don't agree with any of this. The story was cliche and it didn't paint Viktor as tragic at all, it painted him as a moustache twirling villain with no good side whatsoever.
The beautiful thing about the old Viktor lore was that he and Jayce had that Magento/Xavier thing going - Viktor was a bitter former friend with ideals that were dramatic and different, but seen from different angles, Viktor's ideology could be seen as progressive and alternative. He was a man of science, and he used himself as the test subject and used himself to show the world why his Evolution was needed. New Viktor harvests bodies, makes mindless drones, and there is absolutely no connection to him and his works in complete artificial intelligence and automation.
To old Viktor, a constructed golem with an AI, like Blitzcrank, was the ultimate creature, unshackled by organic matter from conception. That is why he seeks to eradicate the organic condition, because flesh only holds the mind back. This is why when we learn that Viktor is using biomatter for his automatons, it doesn't make sense, along with his disregard for free will. To someone who seeks to eliminate the organic condition, the mind is the most precious asset, because the mind is what needs to be preserved. This is why it makes absolutely no sense why Viktor disregards the will of others, especially those he's evolving.
This story was terrible for the way it set up Viktor and was riddled with holes.
