How much variation is there among the Vastaya tribes?

So in the past there was always this problem with animal champs, that Riot invented a new race of animal-hybrids to justify the existence of the animal champ, but then said race would end up ignored, because they are pretty much just there because Riot wanted to give us a champ based on an animal-hybrid.

However the Vastaya have the ability to shapeshift to some extend, thus allowing for more variation among each tribe, like Rakan who has more humanlike ears and feathers of a peacock, wheras Xayah has more furry ears and has ravenlike feathers. Now the question is just how much can they change their shape?

Because depending on how much they can vary,we could actually get additional champions from a tribe more easily.(not saying that they'd be impossible otherwise) For example if Riot wanted to give us a Goirlla-champ,they might not need to invent a new race of sentient Gorillas, simply because Gorilla vastaya could still belong to Wukongs Shimon-tribe. Similar a Tiger Vastaya could be a Kiilash or an Eel Vastaya could be a Marai and so on. This would help to make these tribes less of a footnote in the champions bio and make them feel more like an actual part of the world.

Or would that be too different?

I do think there will be variations within the tribes, but nothing outside of a species for many of them.

Hmmm...

However the Vastaya have the ability to shapeshift

Rakan and Xayah can alter their appearances to an extend, but can't shape-shift to the same degree as Nidalee (that is pretty rare as I understand it). Also, other Vastayan races have not been confirmed to have the same ability.

Wukong has a tail. Gorillas don't. So I doubt you could have a true gorilla-Vastaya in the Shimon. Even if their appearances can vary, their basic anatomy would stay the same. Though I suppose you could have an extreme case of sexual dimorphism.

A tiger-Vastaya would just be a stripy Rengar. Easy. I doubt there will ever be a tiger champion though, because then Rengar would be less interesting as a character.

I can't imagine what an eel-Vastaya would even look like. What's the difference between an eel-human hybrid and a fish-human hybrid? An eel with a human face? That is freaky.

These are just my thoughts. I have no canon answer to give you.

At least 20-30 tribes/ variations not counting the shapeshifting nature of True Vastaya and Vastayan descendence amongst Humans.

We can only speculate since we didnt even get any physical indication besides Rakan and Xayah of any variations between the tribes members and what differences can accur. We just simply dont have the info as of yet.

I guess as far as you can think of generic animals (like cats and dogs, as opposed to leopards and cheetahs) you can think of and mix with a human design and to what degree.

Well it probably depends on the tribe how much they can shift, and probably also on the individual. One individual might have more inate magic then someone else, just like different humans have inate magic but some don't. Though every Vastayand have inate magic it probably differentiats how much.

I deffinantly think that a tiger Kiilash could be possible because that would probably only change the color and size of the character but I think a eal Marai would be a bigger change.

Another way to see it is like comparing Vastaya to mamals and a tribe (like marai) to a dog. Dogs look very different depending on the sub-race, but they are still dogs. For example I have a Welch Springer Spaniel and my friend have a Golden Retriever. That would probably be like Marai could have different races, or sub-races like the one Nami is in or a more eal-looking race.
