With the 10th anniversary, you generally want to do something big for the game and Senna being the next champ is perfect for that. With Senna being next...

You conclude/progress one of the longest running rivalries in League's history (Lucian vs. Thresh)
You pull one of the great lore figures who still isn't a champion.
You silence people who think lore is still JUST retcons and rewrites.
You add a major champion who will change the story of the world (or at least the shadow isles) in a major way.
You might even kill a god damn champion. (I don't think Lucian or Thresh are walking out of this one without at least one scar).

Not sure if this was timed on purpose or just a happy accident but it all lines up in an immensely satisfying way.

I just hope Senna doesn't come out of this without scars either. You don't exactly get tortured for years and brought back to life via unholy magic and be the same person. If they pull a Kaisa where she isn't messed up in some way I'll be sad. Her visuals from that leaked splash looked amazing though, even if it's her launch skin.

I agree. A lot of people are saying that it's contrived or that it will ruin Lucian or Thresh's character and leave them without motivations, but that's just being short sighted and probably why the story barely budges. Motivations and relationships can change. Should Leona and Diana never resolve their conflicts just because that's the core of their character? No they will, then the writers will just give them a new one. It's called growth.

Personally, I'm glad after all this time Riot has_finally_ revealed what happened to General Du Couteau.

Game of Thrones aired in its entirety and the End Game wrapped up 10 years of movies. Thank you Riot for a satisfying conclusion to that 10 year mystery.

I hope Lucian gets a mini-rework, his kit has bounced between freelo and hot garbage since his release due to balancing and hopefully he'll get a new set of voice-lines as well or even a complete overhaul for obvious reasons. Also, I hope that Lucian, as you mentioned, doesn't come out of this without a few scars. I don't remember where I saw it but somebody had the idea of borrowing his aesthetic from High Noon Lucian, where he's half-dead and would be of a ghostly form for half of his body. Let's see how riot plays us.

If this is the 10 year anniversary anouncement, I am going to be severely dissapointed and feel extremely let down. I've always loved the lore of league of legends, but now they are trying way too hard and it lost it's magic.
