@Riot: What are your thoughts on LoL Animated Shorts by professional animation studios?
To give you an example of what I mean, I mean animated shorts from compilations like The Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight, and Halo: Legends. All of those had numerous short one-shot anime videos each made by a different animation studio. All good stuff.
Now, since making a full-fledged League anime would run into all kinds of problems (i.e. Who would be the protagonist? How would you make a legit story last several episodes? How would you handle people complaining that their favorite Champion wasn't featured?), I propose that Riot turn to these animated shorts to be able to show off various LoL stories. It might be expensive, but paying those animation studios to animate the stories for you could see a HUGE payoff.
So to summarize: Would you try this for lore? Or does it run into some unknown problem?
In the meantime, for the lore fans, post up your ideas for plots for animated shorts. Assume these animated shorts are no longer than 10-15 minutes. Additionally, try to avoid plotlines that could simply be summarized as "A battle on Summoner's Rift" or something like that. Remember, these are meant to be more story-driven; combat and action should be a means to an end, not the end itself.
I'll start with a couple of examples. (don't delete the topic for this, Riot)
Answer Not the Sun Following the massacre at the Solari Temple, Leona pursues Diana down Mount Targon and confronts her, demanding that Diana explain her actions. The two get into a verbal fight at first, with Leona claiming Diana went too far (i.e. she went beyond self-defense), while Diana is adamant in her belief that the Solari Elders had to be annihilated down to the last man. With the two at an impasse, Diana attacks Leona, but Leona refuses to fight back and only defends. During the struggle, Diana trips after making a reckless attack and is left dangling from a cliff. Leona offers Diana her hand, but Diana refuses it and lets herself fall, landing safely with the moon's blessing. Leona watches with tear-filled eyes as Diana flees, unable to pursue her further.
Wet Work Miss Fortune asks for Nami's help in a bounty hunt, though Nami is reluctant at first to help MF out. MF is insistent, and forces Nami to help her out. The two chase down MF's target, a monster on a local island, but the monster proves more than they can handle and injures MF badly. Nami brings MF to safety and heals her, and during MF's recovery the two have a conversation, learning a lot about each other's goals (with some tongue-in-cheek innuendo to boot). Later on, the monster returns and attacks the women while they are resting, almost killing them. Just when things look bleak, Fizz shows up and distracts the monster long enough for MF to kill it. The two women thank Fizz for his help, but wonder why Fizz was around. Fizz says he was interested in hanging out with two "hotties", prompting MF and Nami to punish him for being a pervert.
Sounds like a good start?
