Is the name of our game retconned?
Or is there still a League of Legends in Runeterra? Can't keep track of all the destruction.
Also, why are the Final Fantasy XIV servers down?

Lore and Gameplay got a forced divorce.
Name stays the same, Lorewise LoL never existed.
As for the FFXIV servers....no clue.
I've come to think of things this way. LoL is like Super Smash Bros now. We are just playing a game that uses a bunch of characters from this world. The world goes on without us and we have no part of it ("summoners" don't exist). So the title League of Legends just references the fact that the roster (league) of playable characters are particularly amazing (legendary) in their world.
Also, why dragons in the Skyrim are actually wyverns, Riot?
No idea about the FFXIV servers, so can't help you there.
As to the name, well the game and lore aren't intertwined anymore, one just kinda draws from the other. It's still a League of Legends though because it's a group of people who're considered legends for one reason or another who do something together. So name stays the same.
ya it was retconned so that the lore team can be lazy and half ass all future lore. the league of legends dont exist. its just there fore gameplay.
this creates plotholes btw because some champions lores like jax lore and janna lore still directly refrence it.
