A writer can also actually write more than a few paragraphs of lore in a year.

We're getting neither quality nor quantity.

I was just thinking........ what an amazing interview question it would be to create a difficult imaginary situation, like the one where we have summoners and an institute of war and a rift, and to simply ask someone: how would you write yourself out of this conundrum? And I swear, a good writer will make it seem like the entire thing was planned 10 years in advance and it was a brilliant idea.

Depends on if you consider Deus ex Machinas to be acceptable means of "Writing your way out" of something.

Lord of the Flies got a pretty huge one, yet it's considered to be one of the top 100 English-speaking novels from 1923-2005.

Besides, comics do it often. I'm sure it's legit.

I wouldn't argue that Lord of the Flies uses a Deus ex Machina. It begins with the context of war, brother against brother, and ends with the same. Also, it is clear by the end that the society of boys wasn't going to work out, and already wasn't, so the final moment doesn't really suddenly change anything, outside of the single boy's death.

Sorry, my mind's being dumb. So you're saying that since the path was sure to head to disaster (if I remember, the island was lit on fire before Deus Ex Machina moment), that even if the other kids were saved, it didn't change any part of the plot?

Been a while since I read it but, the reason the deus ex machina is in the book is to send a message, isn't it? It may seem a bit arbitrary to the story, but it relates the one thing to the youknowwhatorelsereadthebook and sends out a message this way.

While it's true that a writer can write themselves out of anything...it doesn't mean that their solution is believable. It has to fit with the game for it to be accepted.

Time travel is my solution. Zilean goes back in time before the league was created and somehow prevents it from forming, leading to a whole new "history"/alternate history.

Too complicated for Riot to Achieve, better to just retcon it all and leave the lore to be after that for 2-3 years.

Blame the retcon on a champion that creates nothingness, a void (create said champion) which engulfed the Institute of War, but who got defeated by a mysterious cosmic being wielding an egg, after which the IoW reappears.

At that point, hire a good writer and make it work as normal.

Retcon the retcon the retcon the retcon and blame it on Ouroboros, the cyclicality entity of the universe.

At least we are getting something, I'd rather have some ammount of bad writing than ultra-short AND bad writing, which is what we have now

It seems to be a team of changing writers. If it was always one person, yeah. But with different hands touching a lore, things get lost in the scuffle.

If you have to continue someone else's work, you might be, but it's unlikely you see any position as bad if you are good. Just challenging.
