Do Yordles have some sort of "kill on sight" reputation that Teemo or Veigar is responsible for?

Seems that way in the Ziggs/Jinx comic that upon being seen as a Yordle, the Piltovians want to eradicate him without even a thought. I'm gonna guess either Teemo, Veigar, or some other Yordle we're not familiar with, is responsible for such a reputation.

Here's hoping that whenever you get to a Teemo or Veigar Visual Update, we'll get some Yordle lore.

(Oh, and dick choice by Heimerdinger to throw Ziggs to the wolves.)

There was one guy in the comic that shouted that Yordles are Noxian weapons of war, and that he saw them when Noxus invaded Ionia, but we can assume he witnessed Kled, as Kled is a yordle associated with Noxus that we know has taken part in all of Noxus' wars.

Remember that Piltover is a community founded on science, not magic. They probably regard yordles - inherently magical beings - as mischief-makers at best and menaces at worst. I doubt Teemo or Veigar had anything to do with that perception - it's probably just a cultural thing.

And while yordles might be persecuted in the Twin City, they're probably tolerated in Noxus and adored in Ionia. The former doesn't care who you are so long as you're strong, and the latter is an entire nation built around magic.

What WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOO said. Veigar's still got pre-Great Retcon lore - and iirc, he was imprisoned for committing some crime, not just because he was a yordle.

That would be odd, considering if the magic can be studied and reproduced (and we know it can by Xerath's and Ryze's own lores) then magic just is science.

Sure, but I figure it's a matter of perception. Science is still up-and-coming, and I don't know that many in Piltover and Zaun really know its extents yet. They just know that it's FAR safer than the destruction that the Rune Wars wrought. Anyone who can snap their fingers and blast someone has to be more dangerous than someone with a gun, just because you can take the gun away.

At the end of the day though, it's all speculation on my part. I'd love for Riot to expand more on Piltover's origins and on their yordle hatred specifically so we can actually understand why yordles are persecuted there.

I'm trying to think of what could be the actual distinction though, and how science could possibly be up-and-coming.

Science is just a method of study and experimentation on the world and its properties. Magic is a property of that world, one that can be studied, experimented upon, and replicated.

So, any science should also encompass magic. Trying to create some division between the two would really just mean all the scientists of this setting have no idea what they're doing.
