Are champion designs going in more fairy tail like direction? Bard, Tahm and now the new champion seem to be kinda that way. Even Ekko appears to be like a character from a kid's film (not particualr one, but in general). I have to say i kinda like the approach.
I think Riot just likes to give people a break once and a while from the bloodthirsty and spooky champions. I hope to see a return in champions like Sion, Darius and Aatrox soon.
I think it is Riot simply exploring stuff they didn't explore originally.
In the early days they were afraid to do too many inhuman characters,which is why even monsters like kog'maw and cho'gath are intelligent and probably why elise is a shapeshifter and no monster,they thought that inhuman champs weren't relateable enough.
However now that they have so many champs already in the game,it becomes a bit more ok if a champ only appeals to a few people and not everyone,its ok to experiment more. And inhuman champs or myth-like champs are simply things they didn't explore before for that reason.
