We need to stop saying "x champ doesn't fit x skin"

I'm getting a little bit frustrated on how the community portrays skin lines.

They're suppose to show an alternate version of the champ.

"What if this champ was a star Guardian?"

"What if this champ was a battle boss?" Etc

If riot made skins based on the champ we would have never gotten Lollipoppy. We would have never gotten Pentakill and Dj Sona. We would have never gotten Gatekeeper Gallo. We need to stop saying that statement because it's just an absolutely rubbish argument.

I also dislike the mentality of "I don't like it so it shouldn't exist". Sorry but no skin is going to please everyone and I kind of like how every player has a chance of getting a skin that's right for them. This goes for game modes as well. Don't like it? Don't play.

Three cheers for Zeanix, who pointed out the truth of skins! We wouldn't have Giant Enemy Crabgot if every skin had to be a war machine like Urgot. We wouldn't have Star Guardian Jinx or Star Guardian Ezreal, much as I hate to say that last one.

I actually wish they'd make more skins that "don't fit". PugMaw and Renektoy were some good examples. Just random skins that don't really have anything to do with the champ but are still cool. Smite does this a lot, one of Odin's skins turns him into a giant panda. Wtf do Odin and pandas have in common? Nothing, but the skin is still badass.

Pretty much every time someone uses this complaint is because they're salty that their main didn't get a skin instead.

Then Riot should stop telling us that "fitting the theme" is a deciding factor for X champion getting the skin for Y skinline while in reality it just goes by their personal choices and popularity of the champion.

Sona actually does fit both Pentakill and Dj sona and to explain why lemme copy you my comment in another post :

"i get the idea behind the skins , i just dont agree to all of them thats all. i mean i love the characters in the ways they are known to me i cant imagine them in different themes with different personalities that are WAAAAY far off from their original characteristics they wouldn't be the same for me at least not in all different themes. for example sona fit as a gothic themed metal keyboardist to me because she is still mute she is still playing music and she still has that feminine lady like look to her. but however i look at it i cant fit the dark personality badass pirate queen into a cutesy magical flying colorful girl."

as you might see here, this is mostly a personal opinion some people like that idea some dont.some see it as fit and some wont. there is no point calling it a rubbish argument just because its something you dont mind.

im not saying these skins shouldnt exist, they should just pointing out that not everyone is going to like them so we are going to see negative responses like that. i dont like soraka program skin so didnt buy it simple as that.

my point is , community voicing out their negative feedback isnt a nuisance.its just a ways for developers to learn what their players like AND dislike.how they decide to approach that is up to them. and sadly in this case riot decided to keep silent about it if they make one post and explain why they want skins that are appealing to everyone and why they picked the champions they did.it put a lot of players at ease and gives everyone a good idea for future expectations.

That's the thing though, there's still two stipulations: It still has to be recognizable as the champion The alternate champion needs to fit the theme

Pentakill Sona is still very much Sona, just with a metal bend to it. If a theme is school children, you inherently get to cross off some champions.

I think that it's more so the skin LINE doesn't fit the champion.

For example, the battle boss skins belong to champions that primarily have telegraphed yet very punishing spells, like your standard boss. Only one who doesn't exactly fit this is Blitzcrank as all he has for warnings is the travel time on his grab.

We'd never see Battlecast Ahri for example as the battlecast skin line is made around bulky, function-over-form design principles. Ahri is very stylistic and is a bit too fluid to fit that ideal. Not to mention clashing personalities outside of a legendary skin nor is it in a complete opposites way like Lollipoppy(Super silly for pretty serious)

Now for champions that got skins that they couldn't really fit... These are very rare or not a thing at all as Riot is really good at avoiding this.

i get your point but your examples are terrible. pentakill and dj sona are both very fitting to the champion, lollipoppy isnt really fitting or unfitting, and gatekeeper galio is more fitting than not (although not a ton). and honestly, while not that many, i would say that there are some cases where a skin just wouldnt work for a champion very well, such as star guardian tryndamere. to a certain extent a skin does have to make sense for a champion for it to be feasible

I think this all comes to a couple different factors for people.

My main issue was a wasted potential and already existing themes for the champion. We have already gotten those more colourful fun skins on ahri. We have some more serious and "quiet" skins. I wanted to see something evil!

I don't see anyone saying that, but I do see people saying that other champs fit the Star Guardian theme way more than Ahri.

AurelionSol Diana Leona Soraka etc. Everyone knows Ahri got the legendary just because of the money Riot will make (see: recent Riven and Yasuo skins)

Character model sometimes is a limiting factor behind skins. Theme isn't necessarily the answer, but not every champion can fit every skin line.

That said, most humanoid champs can fit Star Guardian skin line. I'm not defending the SG Ahri choice.

Exactly. The whole point of these skins is to make a champ look different then normal, giving them a feel that isn't like the normal version of them. Giving them a skin only cause they "fit the theme" is the complete opposite of what the skins are for. Wukong for example has 4 Journey to the west inspired skins when he himself is inspired by Journey to the west. this results in Wukong having one of the most boring line of skins outside of champs with 2-3 skins. Just cause he fits the journey to the west theme, doesn't mean that should be the only kind of skin he should ever get. Riot needs to spend less time thinking "this champ doesn't suit the theme" and more time thinking "how can we get this champ TO fit the theme".

The problem is that in general champions are limited to one legendary.

When your favourite champ get's something like starguardian jinx as legendary you'll be dissapointed that it's not something better and it never will be.

I think it also heavily depends on the skin in Question. Brolaf for example will generally be accepted as pretty damn rad. SG skins are some form of niche, while i love weeb lux for meme reasons and it being a good skin, the skinline is aimed at a specific audience and you can't even say you watched 1 episode of an anime that's not DB/pkmn without being told "feggit weeb omg kys".
