@Riot : Organize a "community art contest" to update old/legacy/cheap splash-arts ?

Riot's ressources are limited. In both time, money and efforts.

**Wonderful **artists exist in our community.

It hurt my soul to see old splash arts that Riot will not bother to update (unless extremly old or VGU)

Because they are busy doing more important things. (New skins, new game-modes, new champions, new musics, new lore, new animated videos, new emotes, new voice packs, new runes, new preseason, more balances to do, etc ... )

Why don't we use the power of our community to get some "quality of life update" !?

If you don't believe that this idea can achieve wonders, take a look at this :

Our art community is great, please don't let that potential wasted ! [sg-soraka]

TL;DR :

  • make an art contest
  • get old/bad/cheap splash-arts updated
  • Riot continue to work with its serious stuff
  • Riot reward the artists with virtual content (so it costs them NOTHING)
  • ** Artists get visibility** and public recognition for their talent
  • players are happy that their old/bad/cheap skins splash-arts look great now

The splash-arts do not need to be permanent, but they can work as great placeholder Just like Warwick's updated splash art before his rework

If you still think that some skin splash-art don't deserve to be updated. Take a look at this list, and look at the splash-arts. Sort them from "lower rating to higher rating "

( i hope this post gets enough visibility :v )

I like your idea, but I don't think that Riot would ever apply it, since it could be viewed as freebooting (although with the consent of the artists).

Now please don't shirk me, but I'm going to talk as an artist (working)

There are many artists who enjoy league, but it wouldn't be worth the time invested into running the contest. You'd end up with the best art at the same level as the old corki splash, not better. The majority of pieces would be many multitudes worse.

The one you want to replace it with, while technically better, completely fails in clarity and communication. Does it show corki's silhouette, abilities, champion icon? Nope. And I'm not flaming because, as a piece of fanart it doesn't have to- but as a league splash art it must. It is non-negotiable- the art MUST meet these criteria. If you could combine the strengths of these two pieces you'd have a perfect league splash.

And knowing the online art community, the rarity of these combined skills, the value of these peoples' times--- I'd field a guess that we'd recieve very few pieces excelling the originals in all required fields.

(And also, major downside - TERRIBLE net publicity. 1000 salty artists flaming riot on their blogs, being reposted by all their fans countless, because their art was gorgeous, but they don't recognize it lacks what's needed to be usable, and their's "was totally the best so why didn't riot use it"?)

Also note that it'll cost Riot less than it would have for paying their artists anyway. If we give 1 free skin (for the splash art done) and 10 chests/keys, that can add up to about 20 dollars (2600RP) or slightly more per splash art, depending on the cost of skin.

That's like 1 hour of work for the artists. (EDIT: In terms of cost, not that such a quality artwork can come out in 1 hour. ty to MalrothDragonia for pointing this out)

It will certainly take some time to select the winners, though. (Also, Rito pls let us buy Feeney splash arts)

I honestly like the original red baron corki splash more. The fan art splash has the focus on the very tip of the plane and it's kinda odd.

They copied community Irelia splash or it was from chinese?

Legally they can't really do that without a lot of fine print. They also have whole teams dedicated to doing art. So if they really wanted to update them then they would. Nice idea though, I ran a lot of fan art contests in the past (the contests are still around, but the art isn't since the boards delete images every so often).

I agree with the idea itself, it's fun and interesting. However the list you linked is awful and completely drowned by glorified opinion. It's silly to rate skins in such a formal matter when at the end of the day, what you like about a skin or dislike about a skin has no direct correlation to the quality of the skin as a whole, much less what other people think.

This would be a nice idea, but then the art styles wouldn't be consistent. I'm pretty sure Riot has a team that is updating splash arts already anyway.

Unless there is monetary compensation this is mostly freebooting which is pretty poorly looked upon.

Didn't they use someone's Swain fanart for his new splash?

Gives off the impression of a good idea, people brainlessly mash the upvote button. Smh, this has too many flaws to work
