Despite the inevitable hype over the new champion, I'm not that exited.

Now I'm not saying riot did or is going to do a bad job with her, because in reading the story I felt like she had potential to be a good and interesting champion. The likes of which would be a fine addition to the game.

My problem is with the relation between her personality and abilities. That and as well the fact that she is likely going to be a battlemage, which seems like we now have too many of due to the Mage rework.

Maybe it's because I was a big avatar fan back in the day and I held this champion up against Toph, but I just don't see myself really liking her.

She seems too emotionally weak to be a geomancer (earthbender), and that's just something that I cannot appreciate in someone with so much potential power. Earth is the element of strength and surety, being secure with yourself and stable. She just does not seem to embody the EARTH side of her character.

If you had ever noticed, the majority of earthbenders in the avatar series were (although goofy most of the time) collected and strong, never unsure or unwilling. seems to possess an excessive amount of some of these traits, mostly in the fact that she isn't (or at least doesn't seem) "strong."

If she turns out to be more, -like in-game then she seems to be a GREAT champion, but as it stands her current lore makes her sound too weak to be an earthbender, and I don't think of her too fondly.

Edit: should have mentioned earlier that her kit may make her incredibly fun, but it's her story that I'm not the most fond of.

I expect great thing from riot, and I hope that that wasnt all they had for this champion.

Well, to be honest, Bolin isn't a strong earthbender either but there he is. It is most likely that's just a general thing, not every eartbender has to have strong personality.

Even before that, that's not Avatar series. It's League of Legends. May be in this place, water mages are supposed to have stronger personality than earth mages?

The reason for earth benders being collective and strong was because they represent the very nature of earth itself (hence why most firebenders had anger issues except for Iroh and (later) Zuko, who learned the true nature of fire).

Now you say she isn't strong, and for the most part I can agree since she seems rather frightened of her abilities. Yet at the same time, she stared down a mountain lion with a sling. A freaking sling. Didn't scream, didn't run, just stared it down. I don't know if that is meant to be common in Shurima, but if so then their women are not to be messed with.

Her weakness seems to stem from her fear of hurting those she cares about, balancing the act of destruction and creation. Yasuo at least explains to her that either is fine depending on the purpoe, which is a good break from the whole, "Destruction bad! Never do that!" Aesop.

Well, maybe that's what Riot is going for. They didn't want to start her out as some calm, cool & collected earthbender who never doubt themselves. They want to show Tali's development.

There's kinda a whole reason she had a mentor to help her gain control of her powers

I think its actually a good thing that they went with a completely different approach to the "earth-mage"-type of character.

After all this isn't avatar and making the champ this tough earth-bender-girl would have just made her look a bit like a toph-ripoff,which would have been bad in its own way,not to mention that this whole "tough-earth-mage" is kinda overdone anyway.

Overall I'd say that personalitywise she kinda seems more like an air-bender(she even has a bird-theme going on),which is a bit ironic, but still a welcome change.

She's actually a blank slate for self-insertion. She reads exactly like every other female lead in modern literature.

She's still learning how to use her power,Aang wasn't a confident god of an avatar from the start,he was unsure at his firebending and earthbending at the start and thought he'd never learn earthbending
