These Lore Changes Are SERIOUSLY Permanent?

Most of the new "lores" are only a few sentences and can barely be classified as a paragraph. I honestly thought this would just be for the event, and then they would change back. Guess I was severely wrong on that assumption.

At the very, VERY least, give Skarner his old lore back- you took away the depth of his character (the story of how he's the last of his kind, and is more sad and misunderstood than angry, etc.) and changed him into a stereotypical angry-for-no-reason-whatsoever-guardian-of-some-random-shite. Give Skarner some love. He misses his kind.

I have no more faith in Riot's lore team. They want us to wait a few months while they write up some stuff to release that's good and fills things in?

First, if you're going to disassemble your entire game story, maybe write those exciting things up along the way before you do so, rather than destroy then "hey guys don't worry its coming soon".

Second, the lore was alot better before they decided characters should be generic whatevers. See Shurima and the new Shadow Isles. Or maybe in half a year one or two of those characters will get some story. And if there isn't a compelling bio in game, why have that tab, and why would I then go look for it on the website? You can't hook me on a story in game?

Apparently the small paragraphs are to get you hooked and going to the website.

I find that stupid. But apparently my idea of "let's put the damn thing in the client so everyone can open one program" is too mainstream and like, you know, my opinion man. because Riot would totally click it.

I haven't had faith for Riot for years now. Their lore team failed. Their design team failed. Their system failed. Their servers failed. Their business model failed. Their communication failed. Their apologies failed. Everything about Riot is really living up to its name.

I'm just sitting here, watching how desperate people are to kow-tow towards Riot, after everything they've done to us without compromise. They know they are such a failure of a company that's only breathing on the support of mindless dolts, that they have taken the imperative to tell us that they won't make anymore promises. When anyone tells you that they can't promise you anymore, it's because they are not fit to be a leader or an influence. A true leader or influence won't ever have to resort to counter-intuitive remarks like that. It's like saying "I am here to prove myself...", then realizing you just told everyone that you need to prove something. Those who are truly powerful don't need to prove anything.

Whether or not you agree with their decision to do so, Riot's plan is to replace the lore displayed in-game with these short-form summaries while keeping the full-length pieces available on the website. Some tech problems have apparently been keeping them from fully committing to this approach, with the same piece appearing in both places, but they tell us that they have no plans to do away with the traditional bios. We're stuck in this awkward middle-ground wherein the guys at Riot have fallen horribly behind schedule and thus can only show us half-baked ideas rather than their true intentions

I realise it's been a full month since the Shurima update went live, but the lore team still need more time to get their act together and properly lay their cards on the table; we haven't seen everything they wanted to launch alongside Azir, and that includes the full-length bios for characters like Skarner and Rammus. It's a pretty damning indictment that they still haven't solved these problems thirty days down the line, but no amount of negative press and hyperbole on our end is going to resolve their tech problems and get the full bios on the site any sooner.

All we can do is wait and hope that they'll be with us soon(tm).

As is always the case, the majority don't actually talk on forums or get in discussions. And only people with strong opinions come, be they negative or positive, actually come along. So this'll need explaining until the last of the lore-summaries are put out, as sad as that seems. :(

Why ARE they behind on schedule? That's the million dollar question and its worth more than a million dollars.

Honestly, the whole reason this was a train wreck is when the team took out the original lore, they replaced it with a story regarding Shurima, not a narrative re-establishing the geopolitical canon of Runeterra.

The problem is that the stage is incomplete. What the heck is going on with Bandle city? Bilgewater? No mention.

Riot's Narrative team sticks to releases and creates events, the obvious problem there is that it narrows your focus. You can't tear up the JoJ and the IoW and then NOT explain how the world works without them and start talking about Shurima, it's an unnecessary tease.

I'm hoping that it is only bare for now to give it time to grow, can only hope, also I find it funny that people now want Skarner's old lore because people were calling it shit and a cop out on release.

Now that you mention it I remember some people rolling their eyes at the idea of a race of crystal bugs nobody knew about, but I kinda like it.

But didn´t his lore said that they were Acient beings that lived during the Rune Wars and because those wars the magic polution reached leves which their race couldn´t suport so they hid underground waiting for the Runeterra world became "stable" again? And that Skarner is merely a scout that was sent to check if it was safe for everyone else to come out at X time or wait X years/decades/centuries? It kinda makes sense, doesn´t really need a lot of retcons and its cool.

Well that and the removal of the IoW and Summoner is a direct attack on player immersion/adjacency in game world.

Riot taking peoples immersion for granted is going to kill the lore community... or at least reduces it to the current hateful state it is in forever.

Less they waste on lore the better. I don't care about the toons back story and I am sure a lot of other people don't either. This is league of legends, its not a story, its just one big battle as far as I can tell. I would guess that right now, a lot of people would rather have Riot spend money that would be wasted on a 'Lore team' too perhaps form a team to take care of IP FARMING situation that is essentially ruining the game for anyone that is not lvl 30 and plays summoners rift exclusively. A couple of paragraphs should be more than enough to tell you the toons name and where he came from. As to the life views, motivations and spiritual affiliations the Champ is into, I just do not care. If they removed all the lores from the champions today it would do nothing to change the game for me. I started when Janna had just been released, taking several breaks away from the game I keep coming back because LOL is good fun. The lore adds nothing to the fun experience to me and never has As I see it people are free to create, so create fan based lore if you are so disgusted, post it on the board maybe Riot will use it.

Alot of people don't care. But alot of them do. If lore doesn't do anything for you, that's fine. But for Riot to destroy the lore, matters alot to some people. The league of Legends used to be a story, but is now reduced to a random big battle. Plus, even if it doesn't do something for everyone, League's story and plaer immersion into that story were unique to the genre since most Mobas are very light on story. It was a nice original point that they have removed in favor of generic types.

Actually, they updated the in-client lores of Shuriman characters with the short versions, but due to the website drawing from the same database as the client the site doesn't show the long versions it should. Rioters said it's both a tech issue (they need to develop the tech to run two distinct databases - which should be no great deal, but whatever) and a matter of them rewriting Azir's and Xerath's stories because they realized they could have been done better. On the PBE Shadow Isles champions already got the short bios in-client, we can expect them to be on live at the start of the next patch cycle. If the website issue won't be fixed at that time, expect it to show the short lore for them too.
