and some doubt.

I was honestly hoping he wouldn't be very hextech enhanced and stuff, like Zaunites often are. But it's looking like he will be.

I think it's to help keep with the design of his claw gauntlets. It's possible that the new model will be more of a modernized version instead of a straight up different character.

Like Ryze.

Not hextech.

Chemtech.

Seemingly.

Yes!

This is a very important distinction. When you think chemtech think Captain America sort of 'chemistry' where taking a serum can give you super powers because reasons. From what we've seen thus far the range of things that can be done with chemtech in the League universe appears to be quite on par with the typical 'SCIENCE!' we find in comic books.

Hextech, on the other hand, is more directly and obviously magical. It is literally giving a magical heart to a piece of technology.

Initial observations and hypothesis:

  • Chemtech relies of chemical reactions, created chemical materials and machinery in conjunction to achieve its desired effects. Not magic or at least not from a direct source of magic.
  • Because of the lack of connection to magic, chemtech's not as huge an industry as hextech, but also easier to work with, so is more common in Zaun where they lack the materials to work on hextech. Rebonak's idea is better; bigger industry for chemtech just not as prestigious since it's easier to work with and over all probably cheaper.
  • Where as hextech is effectively magic technology, chemtech is super science. Likely has influenced research and discoveries about the human body and just the fields of biology and chemistry in their entireties.
  • Has a vastly different origin to hextech, and might even predate it. Zaun might've been working on chemtech long before Piltover began working on hextech. Very much speculation on my part here.
  • Where as hextech's all about the machinery, chemtech's more biologically focused, using the solutions, mixtures and tech involved to augment and improve humans as they are rather than make magical tools. Or at least that's the goal Singed is going for.
  • Current champions probably related to chemtech: Twitch, Zac, Singed, Warwick, Dr. Mundo, Urgot.
  • Urgot's particularly interesting because he's potentially a Noxian take on Chemtech. Since Hextech's secrets are well guarded in Piltover Noxus might've decided to go with the "next best thing" so to speak and invested some time and energy in that. Probably had a very, VERY major effect on how the war progressed in Ionia.

Yep. Biomechanical appears to be the key phrase here. Everything we've seen chemtech do thus far centers on augmenting, enhancing, or in some cases (Zac) creating biological systems.

  • Because of the lack of connection to magic, chemtech's not as huge an industry as hextech, but also easier to work with, so is more common in Zaun where they lack the materials to work on hextech.

I would argue that chemtech is a larger industry than hextech, though not as prestigious. Hex-crystals by all accounts are prohibitively expensive. It took a small fortune for Orianna and her father to procure one. The three interlocking parts of Runeterran technology appear to be chemtech, clockwork, and hextech in rising order of cost.

  • Where as hextech is effectively magic technology, chemtech is super science. Likely has influenced research and discoveries about the human body and just the fields of biology and chemistry in their entireties.

I've always been a fan of SCIENCE! as the proper way to describe such applications of technology in fiction.

Hard to guess, really. We would need some difinative stories to figure out which is older. Hextech is (apparently?) a few generations old at most.

  • Where as hextech's all about the machinery, chemtech's more biologically focused, using the solutions, mixtures and tech involved to augment and improve humans as they are rather than make magical tools. Or at least that's the goal Singed is going for.

From what we've seen, I'm thinking the new Wolfy is likely a fusion of chemtech and clockwork. Much more so a working-man's technology.

  • Current champions probably related to hextech: Twitch, Zac, Singed, Warwick, Dr. Mundo, Urgot.

I think you meant related to chemtech here, yes?

Indeed! It'll be fun to see how Urgot develops.

Probably the better assumption. Why the hell didn't I think of that? I feel dumb now.

The Piltover stories refer to chemlamps as well, I believe. And isn't a significant part of Zaun pollution due to chemical production?

Sharjo1 votes

It's not really clear beyond that the Zaun Grey is speculated to have been a result of hextech, not chemtech. To be fair to Zaun, it doesn't look very polluted in the new lore. Smoky sure but that's the grey.

Or rather, the production of hex-crystals contributes heavily to it. Though maybe not exclusively. That's another point that we need some more information on.

Oh!

And it occurred to me while I was at work that the lighting used in Piltover and Zaun are refereed to as 'chem-lamps'. Now, this could mean one of two things. Either we're talking the burning of liquid or gas chemical fuel (which would help add to the pollution levels) or a mostly heatless chemical reaction that produces light as one of the bi-products.

If the former, then that would mean the more mundane applications of chemistry and thermodynamics would fall under the chemtech label as well. I wonder, then, would a automobile be considered a novel fusion of chemtech and clockwork by the inhabitants of Piltover and Zaun?

Papa Andrei1 votes

Overall it seems to be more smoggy than chemical ridden like it used to be.

Though in the new Ori lore it is stated as having massive chemical breakouts at times, which is what caused her to begin her new robotic replacements.

Sahn Uzal1 votes

My bad. I'm still really hyped with some mixed feelings tho.

Makes sense and gives more dichotomy to Zaun and Piltover.

Piltover clearly has a strong focus on hextech and cybernetic augmentation, while Zaun could have a strong focus on chemtech and bio-genetic mutation for contrast. I think their faction emblems spell this over fairy well, when Piltover's emblem is a gear while Zaun's is some kind of beaker.

im excited for warwick but yea i agree with you

why is it so hard to have just a simple werewolf

still looking forward to it

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

Warwick was never a simple wereworlf though?

Sahn Uzal3 votes

Even if his old lore explained him as a result of Singed's chemistry. But he still looked like a simple wolf man.

Iwinatlife421 votes

Well his oldest lore it was his own chemistry that he taught to Singed

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

One could argue that's due to the time he came out, when pizza feet still marched around. He was a wolf man due to alchemy, but he was also still human too much? But he also wanted to go full predator?

It's all messy.

EROTIC RAID BOSS1 votes

Well it better links him to his region I guess. And riot likes to put their own spin on stuff so it's recognizably pulp fantasy without being too cliche

GreenLore2 votes

Well it looks like he'll just have a robotic claw-hand,nothing more.

Okay, tying this into the theory that the word was "Soraka", what if she's the reason he became a good man? That she has the power to redeem men from wickedness? That would give Warwick a reason to seek her out now — she fixed him once, so perhaps she can rescue him from this, too. There's a lot of story potential there. Can Warwick keep the beast within under control for long enough to let her? Can she even expel this from him? What happens if Singed follows along in pursuit of his creation?

the Anarchit3cht2 votes

The sentence isn't to be taken literally if you read it in the context of the story.

GreenLore1 votes

Of course it doesn't mean that Warwick was a literal monster before the transformation, but if he knows soraka, then he might seek her out anyway, hoping that she can heal him(after all she is a healer),or at least help him to surpress his bestial side.

the Anarchit3cht1 votes

No, I mean he didn't "become a good man." Least of all not for Soraka who was not even mentioned in this story. It was merely an allusion to a man who was being tortured begging for his life, promising that he would change his ways if it meant an end to the torture.

GreenLore1 votes

Well it remains to be seen if he was just saying that to make singed stop or not,I mean he didn't say that he'd become a good man,but that he already became one. I mean in Sorakas case,he acted like he was always a good man,he didn't act like he changed his ways.

the Anarchit3cht1 votes

He was saying that in midst of torture. He was specifically singled out by Singed for his cutthroat behavior and bloodthirsty attitude

GreenLore1 votes

Yes he's described as a cutthroat, but Singed also said that he was "feigning civility" and how " Only a disciplined eye could recognize the beast within, yearning for release"

Which could also be understood in a way that Warwick(before he was captured by singed) was actually surpressing his violent tendencies and trying to fit into society normally.

the Anarchit3cht1 votes

Keyword their is "feigning" which means to fake. It means he was really good at hiding his true nature, as "Only a disciplined eye could recognize the beast within..." but that it was nonetheless a ruse.

At least that's how I perceive it, I suppose we won't know more until his actual release/another teaser.

GreenLore1 votes

The thing is that this is from Singeds perspective. Warwick might have honestly tried to fit into society, but Singed thought that Warwick was just pretending(or maybe even lying to himself)

And yeah in the end we'll have to wait for WWs lore to see if he really meant what he said or if he just tried to save his own skin.

TeCoolMage1 votes

I thought he said warwick (intentionally avoiding his name for the hype) but this works too actually

Though that means my Sorakarthus ship could be in danger :(

GrReaper961 votes

Perhaps Warwick update anyone?

Xodiathe4bdn11 votes

So what you think estimated time till Zaun event 2-3 weeks or maybe even next week

Mogarl1 votes

2-3 sounds about right. This pbe cycle should finish next week, so with this teaser it's likely that they expect Warwick VGU to be hitting the PBE next week where he will be for two weeks.

GreenLore1 votes

Yeah, but we'll likely get the zaun lores before the WW-rework comes out. They did the same with Camille and Piltover, updating the piltover lores while Camille was still on the Pbe.

Mogarl1 votes

I hope you're right. TBH I couldn't remember which order those happened in.

Xodiathe4bdn11 votes

Of my word Such a small teaser and already we're getting a lot from this it So how long you think till they star the Zaun story event

Ralanr1 votes

Next week I bet.

Meep Man1 votes

Since the PBE ends and begins next week, I say next week.
