Why not the other way around? Ezreal's overconfidence seems more likely to land him in a sticky situation than Lux.
Purposefully invoking the Damsel trope? No. That undermines a ton of characters.
Putting a champion in a situation they cannot resolve themselves, and having another champion help them out of it? Sure, why not. Cait and Vi probably have to have eachother's backs constantly, for example.
It already happened in Urgot's Lore anyway. Jarvan was about to be worm food until Garen chopped Urgot into two pieces. So there's precedent.

It's rather impossible to maintain the notion that some character is a badass while simultaneously putting said badass in the position where they are completely worthless and entirely reliant on another to save them. The real kick in the teeth comes when one realizes that the person who saves the badass is supposed to be somewhat comparable in terms of ability, which would be the case for many champions. If that were truly the case, the first badass either never would have been captured, escaped on their own, or done enough damage during their capture and holding so as to facilitate their rescue.
Of course, at that point you aren't discussing the Damsel in Distress trope anymore. Otherwise, the person of similar ability that comes to save them is going to be equally worthless without a lot of hand waving.
Never mind ethical issues, it's not logically cogent. An illogical story doesn't have a lot of potential to be good.

Why wouldn't you see a story where Swain needs to be rescued by LeBlanc or Katarina? Maybe Jayce needs the help Vi and Caitlyn after being captured and tortured by Viktor and his cronies...
Might not be exactly as you imagined it, but i felt like sivir in the shurima event was basically a damsel in distress. Sivir was basically only around to be a plot device and then a damsel to be saved by azir.
So it seems like riot isn't averse to placing champions in the damsel role. For some reason when i think damsel the first story I think of would be something involving karma in danger, she isn't a princess but is still a political leader that would have many heroes willing to go save her i think.
Also, yeah i think the ezreal x lux idea is pretty cute.
In general, Damsels in distress are a sexist trope. It can be done well, but it's something that should be avoided. Role reversal on the other hand, I'm fine with. Personally I'd love to see Tryndamere be saved by Ashe.

Sure.But it depends on the story you are writing.Everybody needs help sometimes or you just want to convey something.Even in situations were it doesn't make sense.For example there was this scene in the first episode of the second season of Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles were John Connor re-activates Cameron by putting her chip in.Well after doing that he offers her a hand so she can stand up.This seems stupid cause well she is a terminator.It's been a while but i do remember Summer Glau the actress that plays Cameron saying she really liked that scene in particular i think it was in an interview but honestly i forgot.
