Joking aside, I agree that a proper investigation of Amumu is long overdue.
While I agree that Ammumu's past is beyond vague, its in like another realm at his point on how vague it is, I find that the general lack of his background is actually a big factor into why I care about Ammumu so much. While I feel that his background should be kept rather vague things like 'Is he a yordle or not' should probably be answered.

I thought you meant a rework and I was going to downvote you with the force of a thousand Amumu mains . Then saw you just meant lore update and I couldn't agree more.

Greyord says that he is a yordle, which means that there are yordles at Freljord as well (maybe Gnar was one of them)
Yordles in other places aside from Bandle and Piltover is something that has been mentioned in the lore, for example, there are yordles living at Noxus and Poppy is the yordle Ambassador of Demacia, so its not weird to think that there are yordles in Shurima as well.
Also, his page http://gameinfo.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/game-info/champions/amumu/ states that he is from Bandle City and the "Cursed Mummy" video shows Bandle City as his "home"

Why just Amumu? If I'm not mistaken a good number of champion lores were gutted by the Shurima event. Rammus, Skarner, even Ezreal.
Wouldn't it be interesting if amumu was Azir's son or unborn child? If you read Azir's new lore you understand what I mean because Azir knows that his (son?) is still alive.

a bit off topic but i could have sworn his splash had a mother, child, and dad he was making in his hands. when did they take it out and why? was it too depressing or something?
it depicted human parents aswell, however it could have just been amus interpretation of what his parents might have looked like.

what if he had 5 figners and his time as a mummy one was broken off?
or maybe he had lost before being mummified.
