Are there ever going to be any "slice of life" type stories?

Slice of life - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From what was said in the "Making Shadows and Fortune" spotlight, it sounds like Riot only wants to make "impactful" stories that demand "nothing will be the same" developments. That sounds kinda... difficult, and could eventually get tiresome.

But what about lighter, less-relevant stories? What about the small things that make your characters seem more real, but don't have a huge impact on where they're going?

I'm speaking, of course, of the "slice of life" type of stories: stories that use mundane realism to depict everyday experiences for entertainment purposes. For instance, a short story where someone is trying to find a certain ingredient for a recipe, but the whole ordeal turns into a small adventure.

Sure, they might not be "epic", but they at least feel alive. And not all of us want every story to be like Shadows and Fortune or Burning Tides. We can't have EVERY story be one where you're on the edge of your seat.

I'd love at least one episode where Garen's trying to be a "good older brother" to Lux, but does a pretty crappy job (and yet Lux appreciates that he's at least trying).

I would love this, honestly. I'm thinking the daily life of Bandle City (from the eyes of Rumble) as a fun idea. Same with Piltover from Cait/Vi.

This sounds like animated shorts, the lore should be kept as epic adventures and horrifying twists, but it would be cool to see Annie accidentally lobbing a fireball at fiddle and watching him run screaming... 0_0 ONWARD! TO MICROSOFT PAINT

That would go against Riot's new policy of making every champion into a dark, super serious, brooding thing that makes teen girls weak in the knees. Your suggestions would make the champs seem more like people who have ups and downs and aren't always killing people -- which is ABSOLUTELY not okay.

Next, they'll make Braum, Lulu, Trist and so on all be cannibals who hunt children for sport (like, you know that poro that follows Braum around? Braum ACTUALLY used his witchcraft to turn the little troll boy he saved into his slave), because they're just too darn happy and positive.

Grimdark, gotta love it. >.> Happy champions / themes aren't allowed in League anymore.

There were. They were in the Journal of Justice. Blitz's dating program, Morgana's bakery, Shaco stabbing a reporter and many other stories helped flesh out the world without being long epic narratives. We as summoners (players) had a semblance of interacting with the League and champions through letters we could send. We got little details and stories through the Journal's replies. But the Journal had to go for...some reason.

One of my proudest League moments: "Has there been any investigation as to if Amumu Amumu is the victim of a Noxian experiment in Necromancy, perhaps hidden in a lab in the Shurima Desert? If so, it would appear to have failed, seeing as how Amumu is not in the least bit evil. Is there any hope of finding out his past?" – Xulsigae

This is interesting speculation, Xulsigae, although I have some reason to believe that Noxus would view it as an “unfounded accusation”. To date, no investigation has been undertaken on Noxian soil pertaining to Amumu’s origins. It’s possible that there may be something in the Shurima Desert, but it is a vast desert that’s difficult to cover and extremely dangerous to travel through. The League discourages civilians from venturing south of the Great Barrier as entire platoons of soldiers have been lost on expeditions there.

Regarding hope for discovering his past, I thought the best answer would come from Amumu himself:

"Of course I have hope; otherwise I never would have found my way out of that pyramid. I’m still looking, and many people have helped me in more ways than I can count. I’m so grateful! One day I’ll find my parents, I know it. I just hope that when I find them, they will still want me." Journal of Justice Volume 1, Issue 13.

I miss those days.

I would read a light hearted story with Braum or Lulu or Nami , heck I wouldn't mind reading a story on how Morgana makes her cupcakes in that bakery that as mentioned so long ago. Are the cupcakes evil? Does Pantheon challenge her to a cupcake making contest?

It's kind of impossible for slice of life to apply to a fantasy world like Runeterra. But I get the idea.

I dunno, it could be fun but I'd rather have more foundational lore first.

I would argue that Olaf's segments in Shadow and Fortune are a Slice of Life story for him.

By the way: How is Celes' design going?
