With Any Game, Story/Lore Is A Major Part On The Forums. Why Is There No Major Thread For LoL Story?

Super Loller··1 votes·1,525 views

Let's make that thread. Right here, right now!

edit: My bad, When I said, "Why is there no major thread for LoL story?" I meant "why is there no major boards for LoL story?"

You say that like every single thread put on this board is irrelevant to story compared to yours. Whether that's your intention or not, that's the impression you give.

Edit: I think I'm technically in the wrong here. I mis-spoke.

When I said "Why Is There No Major Thread For LoL Story?"

I meant "Why Is There No Major Board For LoL Story?"

I said the word thread when I meant board. My bad.

I'm sorry for mis-speaking, but I still stand by what I meant.

** Why is there no major board for LoL story?**

Put up or shut up Sharjo!

I can't tell if you're being serious or one hell of a troll, but Sharjo is probably one of the best loreheads in the forum. Especially seeing how, if there's any lore developments, you can bet with 95% certainty that he will be the first one to make a thread about it with a link to said color text or bio for it.

And his contributions to the board for lore is made more evident by the simple fact that one of his threads even got stickied and lists every single lore development to date for the year 2015.

He also said "that's the impression you give" which means you don't have to say it directly. That is the feeling some might receive by how you're stating your thought or opinion on the opening post/title.

That, and with my opinion, I rather them have a seperate area on the site for all lore bits and stories as opposed to a collection of them in a thread on the boards. I doubt that it would be that well organized since it would be in the form of post after post. That is, unless you're wanting them to have a post with links to all stories which, once again, could just be another sector of the site which is lore only and not a part of the forums.

I'm sorry but you're kinda proving my point. I used to be really in favor of most (if not all) of RIot's decisions back in the day. I was actually kinda of a fanboy of Riot... I still carry a skin code card signed by Nikasaur in my wallet to this day.

What I have a problem with is how they bungled the lore retcon, and how they seem happy to ignore how many lore problems it has caused to LoL's lore with virtually no explanation or timeline for when things will be fixed.

Riot's answer to the lore retcon was to throw Riot Opeli under the bus to take all of negate heat, and then to proceed with business as usual.

It didn't solve the problems, it just gave us a scapegoat to blame, while RIot continued to ignore all of lore issues the retcon caused.

It's obvious that they didn't have a plan for the retcon, went ahead with it anyway, and are hoping everyone's just gonna forget all of those mistakes, despite the fact they still haven't been fixed after years.

Just read the champion bio's and read the lore...it's pretty obvious that a great deal of it doesn't make sense, and that Riot doesn't seem in a hurry to fix it....they've pretty much left it in disrepair for over a year.

The thing is that even though the lore retcon was announced far too early, rushing the lore will only cause more problems.

If they start to put quantity over quality, then they'll run themselves into a corner again. I mean thats why they did the lore retcon in the first place, because they rushed the lore without thinking about the future.

Not to mention that Riot did become faster lately anyway. New champions and reworked ones are released with full lore pieces, they updated the targon lores this year and most of the bilgewater/shadow isles lores in the last one and they said that within the next weeks they'll update some of the missing lores from champs who were released with only a short lore.

While I'll agree that the new champion's aren't released with shabby lore, they certainly aren't released with any kind of lore significance.

Back in the day, whenever a new champion was released, their lore made an actual significant impact on Runeterra's story. When a new champion was introduced, it had high quality lore written for it to explain why that new champion mattered! Modern champions don't feel like that on release anymore.

GreenLore5 votes

I disagree about that. Most champs merely felt like they were new additions for the league without any impact on anything else.

Skarner appeared, joined the league and prepared the world for the brackern(but it was never said what he did exactly). Brand appeared and was imprisoned, the end. Nocturne appeared killed a few summoners, got imprisoned as well. Maokai appeared talked with the summoners and became another champion, despite maokai showing what effects the whole summoning can have on nature,no one bothered to do anything about it. Kennen and Akali were released and it was all like "oh they are shens sidekicks",thats about it.

While some of them were a bit more important(Jarvan or Swain for example),most didn't feel that way.

Actually, I'd argue that Skarner, Brand, Nocturne, and Maokai all used to have much more descriptive and high quality lore than they do now.

Most of those champions currently have lore that doesn't currently make sense post retcon or have lore that feels/is slapped together in a hurry and feels sloppy.

GreenLore3 votes

Skarner has only his short lore currently,so I'd judge him by his full lore, which will likely arrive in the next few days. Though I have to say that his current short lore actually manages to be more interesting than his old long lore.

I'd say in Maokais case it is up to personal taste. His old lore was pretty much "plant becomes sentient and hates it",which was kinda interesting, though now he is much more connected to the world, which is something that I like as well.

Brand and Nocturne pretty much didn't get any lore changes,so there isn't much to compare, though that doesn't mean that their old lores were good or had a big impact on the world.

With Any Game, Story/Lore Is A Major Part On The Forums. Why Is There No Major Thread For LoL Story?

Let's make that thread. Right here, right now!

To me this sounds like you're saying that there have been no major threads for lol story, despite the dozens that have existed to discuss League story. You then saying " let's make that thread. Right here, right now!" gives the impression that you're not considering those posts that have hundreds of replies and thousands of views, all from people interested in League's story, to be as majorly important or impactful as they have been.

Again while this might not have been your intention it's definetly the impression I got from reading this post, and it's not like your posts give a good impression anyway, since they're constantly pointing fingers at Riot in ways that don't offer constructive feedback or allow for a more cohesive discussion. Read my post again; I never said that you're actually discrediting those posts, just that from what you put down in this thread that it gave me the impression that you are. The title and wording of this thread itself was what pushed me to think this. I'm not going to apologise for that.

Also:

Please, stop spreading the mis-information that is helping to screw up the communities view of LoL's lore even further.

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/UzrAym3Y-what-we-learned-this-year-tldr-lore-2015

I made that post specifically so people could be informed about all of last year's lore, so don't you go telling me I'm about spreading miss-information. I want to help people get in to and understand the story and lore of League a great deal, because it matters a lot to me, and over 22 thousand people seemed to be interested enough to read it. It's one of the most viewed and most highly upvoted threads on this part of the boards.

On the other hand:

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/ojUbuL6A-riot-has-started-to-silence-players-speaking-out-about-the-lore-retcon

You've seemingly started resorting to spewing mis-information about Riot's own actions on the boards to try and get people to side with you. Go ahead and give me any of your sources that you mentioned but didn't give more details about in that post, and I'll look at it myself, but as it stands, you made that post and your only response to people coming in to criticise it was:

I think you are severely misunderstanding the power that Riot has over their own forum.

No proper response or rebuttal, just an offhanded "Yeah well what do you know?"

There's a reason people instantly downvote your threads, and no matter how many times you change your name or make new posts about this, the community has made its opinion clear.

Alright now I'm tired of this, so this'll be the last time I look in to a thread by you. Hopefully you'll find some other way to spend your time, as I feel you're wasting it right now.

Sharjo, I'll admit that you're a hell of a person for making that list of things made this year, and I commend you for it.

At a glance, it seems like Riot did alot for Lore in 2015...

But have you actually compared that to other years?

Sure Riot seems like it's done a lot for it's lore if you look at it's entire year's worth of content, but I think to get an accurate gauge on things, we need to look at things month to month, with an accurate breakdown of the information.

You're 2015 statistics are a little too vague to draw conclusions from in my opinion. I'm not saying their wrong, they are just lacking some data.

There have been thousands of Story threads for almost everything league related, from the major events to the smallest details i don't know how you can't see anything story related when we already had literaly everything about the story up to now

No matter how many accounts you make Impetual, nobody with a brain and the understanding of social manners will ever agree with you.

Lol, keep being a sheep who's happy with sub-standard lore Tesla. Just look at how Riot's put pretty much every Rioter in charge of writing lore under the direction of champion designers, according to Riot.

Do you really feel like that's the kind of environment that produces quality lore?

Actually take a look at the kind of lore RIot produced during Season 1 and 2. Consider who much the community was involved with actual lore decisions compared to today...(Noxus vs. Ionia ring any bells?)

Players used to actually be a part of the lore, since we were summoners, and summoner's actually had an affect on the story.

@Tesla Effect, what are your feeling about the Season 1 and 2 Lore of League of Legends lore?
