I joined League after Karma rework, and I recently found out she used to have fans??!?

Wh..Why would they remove them? They're so awesome and to me they seem to be what could make Karma unique among other mages.

Current Karma looks like a run of the mill energy mage. Did they change her because she was she broken OP or somethin'?

You just described 100% of the rage I felt when they reworked Karma in the first place.

They reworked her because she was unhealthy, essentially. In her state, she could not be balanced for the game: she was weak, but that was because she had to be, because when she was strong, she was VERY strong.

Her Passive gave her AP for how much % health she'd lost, up to 90 total. This fit her theme of "karma;" e.g., the more you hit her, the harder she hits and heals, but when you think about it, it's pretty broken.

Her Q was a damage wave in a cone (think Annie W).

Her W was a tether that attached herself to an ally or enemy (on an ally, it boosted movement speed; on an enemy, it decreased it for them). In addition, enemies that passed through the line would also have their movement lowered AND in addition take a metric fuckload of damage.

Her E was a shield similar to what she has now, but it was more powerful and didn't have the movement boost.

Her Ult was Mantra, except it worked on the Charge system. She created a Mantra Charge every 30 or so seconds and could store up to 2. Her Q2 provided a heal based on missing % health to allies in the cone as well as the damage; W2 provided double movement effects (useless); and her E2 did massive damage in a radius around her shield target (similar to live, but didn't shield all surrounding allies, no mass speed buff, and did WAY more damage). It was referred to as the "Shield Bomb."

And now she's....

Well she really likes to cast her Q a lot.

Ironic. I've misunderstood the name of this topic and in both cases it made sense..

History of Karma

  1. Karma created as a support who could both shield/heal/buff allies and damage/debuff enemies, who did well in the existing meta of marksman mid, shared gold in duo lanes.
  2. Meta changes to bursty assassin/mage mid and marksman bottom with 0 cs support.
  3. Riot recognizes that Karma fails to fill the role of either a mid or a 0 cs support. She also relies on teammate knowledge of her skills and is too rarely played for such knowledge to become widespread.
  4. Riot reworks Karma.
  5. Riot improves gold itemization for 0 cs supports so they aren't item starved. This change would have made Karma's old kit viable as a 0 cs support. Alas, the change came too late.

It's true. People used to like Karma, but now she has no fans.

Karma is more or less the "enlightened one" among the mages(with spiritual energy and so on),fans didn't have much to do with that concept, which is why they scrapped them when karma got a Relaunch(she wasn't necessarily broken before the rework, but pretty much considered a joke character by most).

I hope they bring a new fan-champion in the future.

Karma probably got changed due to her extraordinarily low play rate back then. ("What the hell is a Karma?" was a pretty popular joke at the time)

I do miss the fans. Although that thing on her back is pretty cool, even if it looks like she's lugging around a chandelier or a menorah sometimes.

Just today I was thinking about how Riot is constantly updating things for the worse, and in particular thinking about the Karma rework. Her old Q was fun and unique, a conical skill shot that did damage and healed. The replacement was a very boring and run-of-the-mill skill shot.

They changed her because she was useless, and don't let the nostalgia-blind old-Karma fans convince you otherwise. I played her. She was bad. She scaled poorly. She had a weak mid-game. She was confusing. Her non-Mantra'd abilities were useless. There were maybe 3 Karma players on the globe (And all of them seem to have generated 1000 mules to complain.)

I always wished that I could understand how Old Karma fans felt about her rework.

Then Riot filled my wish.

By reworking Sion.

I've always wanted to try old Karma...

Dual-use abilities (meaning, you can do BOTH ally cast and enemy cast) have always been fun. "B-but because no one plays Karma, and we want to 'expand on storytelling!!!!1'"

Still... why? Fans are cool stuff.

Rebonack12/3/2014, 6:39:53 AM2 votes

The old Karma was really bad.

Like... consistently lower win rate than Eve'd Eve bad. And Riot intentionally nerfed Eve to the point of uselessness.

The new Karma is hilarious. Try taking her top some time.

She hardly had any spells that actually incorporated fans in a '''logical''' way. Mostly she just.. threw fans? Idk? I'd rather have a champion whose whole design was centered around using fans in combat, in MELEE COMBAT, and not fucking throwing them, gosh.

I see what you did there.
