I gotta say....Senna's lore made do a 180 for lore hype...

Including the blatant retcons of Lucian and Thresh.

You're telling me that somehow, Senna got the queen's soul fused with her own when the mist first encountered her and that's why she's special. That's why she comes out looking 10% corrupted wraith. Senna couldn't just be one of the unfortunate that encountered the black mist? Jesus..... Like it was more interesting knowing lucian was just trying to save his wife. But now its "lucian was actually a side character in Senna's story this whole time." I'm sorry but that ruins it for me. I bet her quotes dont even sound like she had any kind of tragedy because she was never tormented/ tortured by thresh which brings up another problem. Thresh's whole entire original character was tossed aside. He no longer captures people and tortures them like his original lore was. He now just captures people and make them watch him kill people. Just wow. What happened to the big bad that takes you back to his lair to torment your soul? What's he collecting them for now? The part where he tortured live artifacts and a undyng mage is gone. Just like that.

I let myself fall into Narrative's trap again.

It actually does not change anyone's stories. Thresh believed his captured souls were under constant torture, because that is what the Mist is supposed to do. He did not know that Senna was using his stuff against him in secret. Thresh still tortures (the bodies from "Homebound" prove that). We also don't know what he does with those souls when he isn't being hounded by Lucian. Lucian did not know either. Senna's story reaffirms that Lucian is as stubborn as they come and tends to focus all his energy on one goal. He wanted to help his beloved to be free of her curse, then he wanted to free her from Thresh. The only thing Senna's story changes, is the fact that she is back and now we know the Ruined King or whatever is a thing that is currently out there in Runeterra.

To be fair, I used to be skeptical on how Riot would pull this off without breaking established rules they made as well. Lucian breaking the lantern caused unpredictable results, and I'm willing to accept souls trapped within could be set free if you shatter it.

The lantern reforming itself and dragging every soul back into it was a nice touch, I think. It solidifies the old rules that souls trapped in the lantern can't escape. Even breaking it, the freedom granted is temporary.

Senna having a special power that lets her grab her chance to escape the lantern when Lucian breaks it is fine, in my eyes. It can be seen as clunky, but Senna had no development or character before Riot decided to give her one, so they gave her an ability that would later let her escape when given a chance. It's foreshadowing by essentially using an unwritten character, writing them, and then doing what you want with them later. It works.

Thresh is still a big bad. He is still torturing ppl (see Ledros' story and the other one which i forgot). He is keeping tabs on all the spirits, hurting them and the living. For some ppl, mental manipulation is the torture. For some its flaying ppl like in the new story, or driving them to madness. No Thresh is still horrific and vile. Senna was able to use the mist and we've seen characters (like Moakai and Yorick) do this before to fight back the evil so this is no different.

I've complained previously about Riot's constant retcons and how they lead to a completely meaningless world...

...but I feel you're overreacting. This is one instance where they actually did it right, for the most part.

Senna had no character before now, so most everything related to her isn't really a retcon (other than in the strictest 'retroactive continuity' sense).

The fact that Lucian and Senna met through the former's father is new, but it's not contradictory AFAIR. Senna and Lucian seeking a cure for attracting the Black Mist is also new, but it's not a significant change; more of an addition. (As I recall, previously Lucian and Senna just happened to be on the Shadow Isles?)

The hardest bit to swallow imo is the bit at the end of Thresh's bio, wherein it states that Thresh "allowed" Senna to get away because he was intrigued by the fact that she escaped at all. While this is dumb, it's one error in an otherwise perfectly serviceable bio.

Overall this has added to the characters and world rather than take away (Varus' family and Shyvana's dragon dad, anyone?) and has managed to advance the story at the same time.
