Talon has ties to Quinn. Long lost brother?
Syndra has ties to Zed. Zed x Syndra confirm?
Soraka has ties to Karthus. Deeper rivalry?
Ryze is by far the most interesting. Ties to Brand, Miss Fortune, Sona, Trundle, Galio and Nasus. Are they holding runes he needs?
Alistar is connected to Xin. The Noxus Gladiator story lives?
Brand has Shurima connections (Nasus, Xerath and Renekton). Ascended?
Zyra has ties to Maokai. Plant love?
Vel'koz has Zilean. Rivals?
Annie and Amumu. D'aw.
Varus has no friends.
Udyr and Nidalee hiding in a tree. G-A-N-K-I-N-G.
TF and Evelynn still have that ex-relationship going on.
Fiora might like Jax.
Jayce seems to have some ties to skarner.

Xerath or Azir's new lores (I forget which) do mention that the distraction Xerath used to lure Renekton and Nasus away from the Ascension ritual was "a beast of living flame", or something to that effect, so I assume that was Brand.

I'm very interested in the Alistar and Xin story. I really liked Alistar's backstory with the Fleshing and I hope that's still intact.

The TF and Evelynn one is interesting too, that's a JoJ callback.

Quinn almost caught Talon when he tried to assassinate some Demacian official, iirc. Ryze is supposed to travel around the world, and undoubtedly he's met a lot of people from all over the world. In Shurima lore, during Azir's ascension ritual, Xerath released Brand somewhere in Shurima to keep Nasus and Renekton away from the ceremony, so he can be ascended. Vel'Koz saw Zilean's tower and wants to know more about time magic. Fiora and Jax are both great duelists (in lore), so they probably want to fight (or have fought).

Raka and Karthus have such similar Ultimate abilities that Karthus might be a "darker" (not in the emo way) version of Soraka maybe.

I'm guessing the Jayce & Skarner ties are something to do with the crystals harvested from Skarner's people/area that fuels hextech technology. Skarner & Jayce probably end up having a few words with one another.

Many of them existed in champion pages before this announcement though. I would not trust and expect for every of them.

Well if you look at Vel'Koz's lore he actually says he's after a "time master" which is obviously Zilean. Vel'Koz's goal is to hunt down Zilean and get his knowledge of controlling time.

Alistar and XinZhao have always been friends. Also, here's an interesting tidbit: According to the lore, Kled 's only friend is Skaarl, and his rivals are literally everybody in the League of Legends, including himself.

Jax is from "don't use a real weapon you're too strong" to "I use this lamppost because I want to give my opponents a chance."

Also Kayle's lore kinda sucks now being very vague.

Poppy and Shyvana were previously unrelated (other than both being Demacians), but now are listed as being related champs. Also Zed and Syndra were already listed as allies on the old site.

I hope they clear everything up more and list why each champ is related to another. Just something simple like splitting up the friends and foes like it does on the champ pages on the main page would be nice. Even better would be for it to go into detail as to why they are on the champs friends/foes list.

Off the top of my head

Syndra + Zed - They both are Ionians who chase after power, and they've killed people who've tried to stop them from gaining it. At the least some kinship there

Soraka + Karthus - Fairly obvious, they're antagonistic to each other. Karthus brings the peace of the grave to the living, and Soraka does her best to keep the living from death's door.

Ryze + Various - Brand, Galio, and Nasus are all probably beings he's encountered before. The others seem a bit more tricky, especially Miss Fortune.

Alister + Xin - No change in backstories here, it would seem

Zyra + Maokai - This was vaguely mentioned before, I believe. Zyra sees her new form as a blessing and wants to exploit it. Maokai just wants things to go back to the way they were before and be a regular tree again.

Vel'koz + Zilean - Wouldn't really say 'rivals'. Zilean is pretty much Vel's wet dream as far as experimentation goes, and Zilean probably doesn't even know of Vel'koz yet.

Fiora + Jax - From Jax's new lore, seems they're going down the rival path. The undefeated warrior vs the untouchable duelist.

Jayce + Skarner - Jayce's lore mentions 'an arcane crystal'. Safe bet to say its one of Skarner's.

So far a lot of this is the old 'Friends/Enemies' relationship system, but there are new odd balls cropping up that previously didn't exist in that capacity. The related champions area seems a little all over the place, selectively choosing on some hidden metrics as much as something like 'is in the same faction at all' (e.g, Freljord).
