Still no sign of any lore connection between Katarina and Garen. Has it been completely ditched?
I'm gonna guess that Riot feels it's too oblique to consider canon anymore.
That is, unless someone at Riot would like to prove me wrong.

They said it's a future story that they will explore. So they haven't met in the new lore, as far as we know of.
I dont think that they will delete it from the lore, but is not the focus of both characters... I mean, i cant imagine the lore of Rumble being 100% focused on his crush on Tristana for example becuase the character is more than that, same goes for them.
But i think that still something present on the lore, mainly because of all those taunts about them.
I think it was never canon. The few hints were nothing but fan service, like pink taric's new splash art
