Champion Q&A: Tahm Kench, the River King

Rioter post: "Things are going to get worse, much much worse. Then, perhaps, a savior will arrive."

Interesting. Maybe we'll get our "Admiral" Champion at some point in the near future. Someone who leads a vast fleet to bring law and order to Bilgewater.

Okay, maybe that doesn't spell "savior" to the home of the pirates so much as "oppression and ball-busting". But that's a YMMV thing.

Still, the thought of an Admiral Champion makes me grin...

I agree. One of the shop voice overs on Butcher's Bridge mentions paying off a debt to a pirate lord or something. Could mean Gangplank becomes like a pirate tyrant king and brings order to the town.

GP is being turned into a dictator Captain tho, I really doubt he is the savior in a traditional sense.

He would be like a Stannis level savior. Super fucking strict and brings order despite not at all heroic or kind.

I still think he is doing it for purely idealistic and selfish reasons. He doesn't trust anybody else but himself, not even his father.

Bingo. And after all, that still makes him a 'savior'. He saved BIlgewater from its own corruption and chaos. The means is a different story.

If Riot can pull it off that way, I'll be happy. I don't want another champion turned into a one-dimensional villain just for the sake of the story being cliché. I want gray characters who are in a sense heroes, but with their own strengths and weaknesses.

If they go for the GP savior, i really hope they dont screw it up like they did with Xerath.... I hope they find a way to show us the pros and cons of his way to handle things, so we can decide on our own if hes more of a villain or a hero.

Well you literally read my mind. The champion could be even just a commodore, if not an admiral though... Maybe if Riot ever makes such a champion, he'll also be a direct adversary to Gangplank.

He could be both, but it'd take intricate plotting and marvelous cunning from the Narrative and Champion rework team to pull it off. I think they're more inclined to making clean, obvious champions. Either way, I want an admiral champion!

Normally the lore events are accompanied by a new champion,but what if tahm kench isn't really the champion for the bilgewater event?What if the bilgewater event doesn't even happen in the next patch,but in a later patch,that will also introduce a new champion,this so called hero(or its the one who makes everything even worse for Bilgewater)? I mean we don't have any of the event-stuff on the pbe currently(except for the map),which is kinda odd.The only times that I can remember where they actually put something into the game without putting it onto the pbe first were the urf-events,which was just one gamemode.

Maybe you're right. And Tahm is a river demon. Bilgewater is more about battling sea monsters, sea sailing and, well sea. Not swamps and rivers.

I just read that the bridge was removed from the PBE cycle,implying that it won't be in the next patch. So it is now rather likely that Tahm is not the event champion.

I dunno,I mean GP rework doesn't seem to be so big and MFs is only visuals.

So far every event came with a few reworks too(Freljord gave Sejuani and trundle VU&GU and shurima gave Renekton a VU and Cassio a VU&GU),but those didn't stop them from releasing a champion alongside the event.

they specifically said that MF might have a minor gameplay update along with visuals, and wasnt there the whole special items for gp possibly, and I am not sure maybe they have another champion ready to release for 5.14 or even if he is early mr. Tahm is the champion related to the event.

yeah,but Mfs gameplay changes are probably gonna be rather minor,I mean she isn't even listed as a champ who gets a gameplay update.

And yeah you might be right about Tahm,but I still wouldn't rule out another champion being announced shortly after tahm for the event.

Very possible about Tahm, for the MF update just remember Ashe was not listed as a champ who gets a gameplay update and her changes while technically rather minor changed her position quite a large amount

yeah,but that update list doesn't seem to cover the champs who only get a gameplay update,I mean Zilean wasn't on that list either,it always only listed the champs who get some sort of visual update.
