At least the old Galio model/champion had character. This one reminds me of the bland lifeless character form that we see with Aatrox.

I realize that all the shills for Riot will be saying how great the new rework is, how awesome he looks, etc. As one who played him quite a bit despite facing repeated ridicule from the Meta-slaves, I find myself looking at the new reveal and shedding a tear for what he once was and how his life and unique character has been stripped away for something so bland.

One last thing - I find myself wondering if time was spent building the model around the Gatekeeper skin, rather than the other way around.

I feel quite differently about this. They began and announced the rework for Galio because they found a visual/narrative direction for him to go in. They had the Demacian colossal gargoyle concept already figured out. Galio needed to be more cohesive with the architecture of Demacia, and his teal and gold wasn't cutting it. They took the new faction symbol for Demacia into account to, and that's what inspired Galio's wings. Sure his kit has shifted his purpose. It looks like he might have better wave clear with less stress on his mana pool, and sure the changes are hard to deal with at first. This is Riot trying to make things collectively match in their world of Runeterra.
