In 2017, is there any likelihood that we may see a story segment featuring Nami?

Or is this an "unanswerable question"?

There are a ton of dangling story hooks sitting around being unused. Nami is pretty close to the top of the list on champs that need to have some story progression.

The other story that needs to move forward is the Freljord conflict. We got this big buildup of a brewing conflict and then-!

Nothing.

It sounded like we were going to pick a winner by showing which side we wanted to win, but that would have meant Liss came out on top and the Frozen Watchers would return. Which would have been a really cool world event.

I mean, in terms of story the actual narrative of the event was pretty much Quinn's journal going to the Freljord, which was effectively the set up the battle lines, allegiances and stakes for each character, which pretty much every event has done. The events following did it better because everyone got to be involved in some story, and so everyone's story progressed a bit. Only Quinn's story progressed in that event really, which was the major failing of it. The event was set up, but nowadays events do setup AND story progression.

Mind you I never expected the vote to mean anything. Was more like a "Who's your favourite tribe?" thing rather than a "decide the fate of the Freljord!" thing, at least from where I was standing.

I really do think it would be great to add some form of in-game story progression, especially now that the League isn't a thing any longer. It would give us as the players more of a stake in the game. Just to grab an example, imagine if there were a Piltover/Zaun vs Noxus event where you could support your side via a Summoner icon?

Noxus wins? Piltover becomes another client state of Noxus and we get to watch Zaun-based insurgency causing them trouble.

Piltover wins? Noxus gets a bloody nose and Piltover forges alliances with the various nations who aren't too keen on Noxians.

Either outcome would advance the story and provide us with character interactions we would otherwise lack. Vi trading blows with Darius would just be icing on the cake.

Eh, honestly I don't care much for the whole "player agency in the narrative" angle. I mean who the hell are we in this context anymore? Lore wise what the hell does our support do? Summoner's haven't been explained in the new setting yet and it's certainly not gonna be anything like it once was, so what will having a summoner icon do? I mean hell even if we went with the angle "games = support" what the hell does that even mean gameplay wise? What does us playing a game that's not canon in the lore do for the lore itself?

I'm of the opinion that if they wanna show story progression in game, they either make campaign modes and the like, or they make a new game set in the league universe and progress story there, but that's just me.

Video games are, first and foremost, an interactive form of media. You don't have any say in the outcome of a book or the latest installment of [Superhero movie franchise] but your actions do have an impact on progressing the story in the video game. Removing Summoners from play likewise removed that agency. I like having agency in video games. Having some sort of impact on the outcome is fun.

Given that the actual League video game has zero connection with League lore (the Smash Bros analogy is oft used) we really do need some way to explore those characters. Another game could do it, certainly. But if a new game were created where, say, Ezreal or Ahri is the protagonist everyone who isn't a fan of cocky explorers and amorous foxes might feel a bit burned.

I'm with you, I'd love to see more Noxus VS Demacia in game playable event type things. Pretty sure Riot used to do that but only for like Season 1 or 2.

Hell, they could just make it a game mode. Only have X Faction Champs VS Y Faction Champs available during the game mode or something like that. I'm sure a more creative mind could whip up something great.

It would be cool if they made an Ocean Nation, like Freljord and Shurima... :)
