A possible new way to add the League of Legends back into the canon

The summoners still exist, but the whole thing is a game they play for fun, using "legends" from the history of their world as fake constructs/apparitions to duel with for entertainment. Hence the term League of Legends. Obviously the Institute of War is still gone, or it's there and the events of everything take place very, very far into the future when everything has passed into... dare I say... legend?
