What do the souls do

What do the souls (like Senna etc) who are stuck in Thresh's lantern do all day? For instance, if there was a fight going on in bot lane, Thresh/Quinn fighting some other grp of ppl jinx/braum, what do these souls do in general? Just sit back and watch the show?

They languish in eternal torment, I suppose. Lots of languishing.
