[Tematics and Lore discussion] - Mordekaiser

Hi all! I am a big Morde fan and i want to talk about his lore and thematical cohesion. At the beginning i bought Morde because i... eh, because i like metal. Pretty much a shallow reason, i agree. The biggest focus of this post is how storytelling, lore, aspects, particles, art and all can better find a solution in the case of Mordekaiser, and is not focused on what actually is his lore.

Morde is weird. Metal dude in a clad iron armor, take that away and what remains? An undead. That spams metal magics. And that probably is just a Wraith possessing/cointained in an armor. Then you look at the lore and you see stuff like suffering, soulstealing and maladies. Maladies.

Even the skill reasoning is a bit off: he generates metal and attaches it to his own armor/body/vessel in order to better resist the enemy, or he uses his own body as resource material for his magics ( thing that is associated with health costs. he also regenerates metal? ) and uses the metal scraps for temporary backup; either way it' s pretty much reasonable, it' s magic, so is Mace of Spades and Creeping Death while making maces of steel appear from the ground to hit the enemy seems really and really off. The only thing that makes you think about him as an undead his is ultimate, and it is pretty much reasonable because probably he does what in life did/wanted to do, and his situation as an undead of some sorts does not define how he wants to use his powers but instead is merely a condition with few power opportunities.

But if you see the bigger picture, you see a champion that wants to be "metal" at all costs and so few speaks of his beign an undead, wraith or what is, and that it is incoherent of what you expect in any case.

I like the metal identity, it' s a bit of a joke but it is a "serious" joke, but i would like that to clash (heh) better with his undead iron juggernaut he is.

How do you see him more? Take consideration that probably Pentakill Mordekaiser is just a "what if" alternate story situation, with a different Mordekaiser in a different situation and all.

He is likely one of the rework/complete overhaul targets in the reboot. Wait a few months for the shadow Isle restart and see if you still feel the same way about him.

Overall he seems to be the evil Overlord of LoL,but with metal powers. His Q,W,E represent him being the metal mage of the game,while his ult is based on him being the overlord who enslaves your soul. Being undead is more like an added bonus to his character,it is nothing that defines him,it is just an additional part of him(you could see him as a walking suit of armor though),I mean you could make him alive and his character wouldn't really change at all.

So in the end I'd say concept wise he is fine. He combines two archetypes not present in any other champ.He actually reminds me a bit of azir who is a combination of sand mage and emporer,just replace sand with metal and emporer with overlord(and Ra-expy with Sauron-expy) and you've got mordes basic concept

I myself am a metalhead, but I don't think Mordekaiser needs to be nothing but a heavy metal reference. Sure keep in some of his jokes and audio that hints towards that, but he needs to be more serious. In my post, I talked about how the armor itself has to mean something to his lore. Thematically it doesn't make sense for the lord of pain/murder to be imprisoned in a giant armor set. We need more lore on who he was before he died, and became an undead. We need that clarification to why he has the armor, and why was he the very first undead?
