It's 2020, Let's check in on what Champions still need a Bio Update

I used to do this yearly but I missed 2019. Sorry ya'll.

When we last left off, there were 38 out of 142 champions that needed to be updated. Now we're at 148 champions. Here's the remaining champions that need fresh bios. Feel free to correct me if I made a mistake. I've left Fiddlesticks and Volibear off because of their upcoming overhauls.

That means we're at 21/148, or roughly 86%. It's slowed down in updates compared to before, but inch by inch we're trudging into the finish line. If we're going by region, then that looks like this. Bandle City/Yordles: 6. Freljord: 5. Void/Icathia: 4. Zaun: 2. Other: 2. Demacia: 1. Noxus: 1.

This means that in addition to adding 6 champions since the last time I posted. and we've removed 17 champions from this list as of today with the Malphite update.

I still fit in the department of Gangplank/Kindred need one too since their bios are so short due to being made right around the time the lore was revamped, but one step at a time I suppose. Of the regions, Freljord dropped the most, going from 10 to 5. Bandle City and the Yordles as well as Void/Icathia dropped the least, going from 8 to 2 and 6 to 4 respectively. And of those Void/Icathians, both were Human (or whatever Jax is). I said last time we'd be done by early 2020, but Riot's pace slowed down pretty harshly in 2019 for lore updates. I'm going to push this back, assuming that similar pace, to early 2022. Keep up the good work guys.

Not looking forward to the K6 update being written by someone who thinks he was made in season 6 and has never seen Alien Vs. Predator. Expecting Riot to facelift Venom and/or Deadpool near word for word. No idea how they intend to Marvelify Reksai and if they turn Kennen into Statick Shock that... would be an actual improvement. Static is a DC hero though.

Either way, Lore updates are the changes that upset me the most, Malphite was a little better but they're not clear if the writer realizes how big Malphite actually is - Only that the prefix "Mal-" is Latinate, and more likely Noxian/Demacian in origin and not S.Africa/Mesoamerican-esque Ixtal - No language from Ixtal seems to linguistically follow it - and "-phite" is arguably Greek based... I mean Demacia already has a stone called Petricite. The disconnect in culture origins makes Malphites new inclusion an obvious attempt at filling up a region who's entire story is ~~copied from Black Panther since it was popular at the time~~ the seclusion and isolation for thousands of years from the rest of the world, meaning creating new characters is difficult and unlikely to play a role in anyone else's stories otherwise.

You're right, both of them technically have a "long bio" (longer than a short biography) but they are still targets for edits, like everyone else that received their long biography before the new narrative leads took over. Everyone before Zoe could technically get a few edits. For example, Garen and Lux received updates in early 2019, even though they already had a long-form biography before. It most likely won't change much, but they're trying to bring everyone in line with the same standards, so that probably means longer biographies for Kindred and GP.

This is why I distinguish between "long" bios and "updated" ones. Everyone after 2018 is updated, long bios are still up for minor edits. My (unofficial) list of long bios is:

I REALLY Hope Riot gives us a story between Rumble and Tristana. The relationship there is cute and funny.

It's kinda interesting how the freljord was the first faction to receive a large lore update back in 2013, yet it is nowadays the one who is still missing the most lore updates(at least if you don't count all the yordles as bandle champs) because so much changed since then. Really makes me hope that some Freljord champs get bio updates alongside Volibear.(Olaf and Anivia would be good candidates since Olaf is part of the Winters Claw and Anivia is Volibears sister).

Also do you have any idea how many color stories we are still missing?
